Then don't, but you won't be able to use Sonar5. I can't imagine anyone using any version of Sonar with Win98, a 7 year old operating system. You can't use leading edge software on an old platform. Win98 is too limited in CPU and memory support, USB support, etc. Win XP is a 32-bit O/S and we're quickly moving to 64 bit. Win98 just can't keep up with that.

    Aha, I get it now...

The "boycott" we've been hearing about is simply a strategy for saving up some cash for when they're ordered to pay legal fees for these frivolous lawsuits. Very clever! I'm sure it's going to cost more than that though. Keep saving.

Thanks for lightening the mood around here. I'm sure I'm not the only one laughing my butt off at these posts.

It will run on 20-40% of the current Win98 install base. You might be one of the lucky ones.

honestly, there is no such thing as an obsolete computer in music. I know people still using first generation powermacs and ancient programs that most of us never heard of to do their sequencing. They arent interested in audio + sequenceing, soft synths etc. It works dont fix it! Remember when the polyphonic rolands/korgs made all those monosynths obsolete then the DX7 made all the analog polysynths obsolete?
Of course we all are paying a lot to get our old toys back now.
I am not suggesting that 98 is "Vintage", "warm" or "punchy". I do know that if you can acheive a stable recording platform with your software and hardware, think twice before upgrading. The grass isnt always greener oon the other update! (though if S5 does support multiple bitdepths per project than that is worth it to me)

I think for most, it isn't about the music anyway. We just want to get our hands on that sexy software.

trolls are legendary creatures originating from the scandanvian part of europe.

kinda along the same lines as bigfoot, loch ness, sasquatch, chupacabra etc etc.
