Why would JBridge be any more stable/unstable than BitBridge?
Could anyone explain why JBridge would be any more stable/unstable than Bitbridge. I would have thought that Cakewalk would have the upper hand in this regard.

I don't know, but from what I've heard J-bridge is only needed for some plugins. I don't use it at all. I've never downloaded it and I have had no issues with bitbridge. but I don't use some of the older kontakt stuff (B4, Akoustic Pianos, Kontakt2) or any of the other softsynths which have been mentioned as being a problem.

Of course I am very hesitant to monkey around with anything in X1 as it as been very stable for me...having said that, it has not been perfect either. I would install JBridge if I thought it would cure any minor glitches that occur from time to time with X1 - but for the most part, for me, they have been somewhat random and not reproducible - and by no means disastrous.

JBridge in my experience is very stable but it's only really going to be of use if you have 32 bit plugs that won't run under bit bridge. Even then there's no guarantee they will with jbridge. One other plus point about jbridge is it doesn't force the bridged plugs window on to the top like bitbridge does. that gets tiresome for me as well.

I have had no issues with bitbridge. I suspect a lot of people have had this problem with Bitbridge, and just not noticed it: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2323689 I use Jbridge whenever I can to avoid this one-buffer delay that Bitbridge introduces with some synths.

jBridge lets you use 32bit plugs in 64bit apps AND 64bit plug in 32bit apps. Bitbridge was a complete nightmare for me. jBridge is far more stable.

I'm not making fun of you, I'm asking a serious question.. I checked mine and it's set to 0, which I assume is default, which I futher assume that it means that it does not use a buffer size for export independent of latency. and I have never experienced the additional audio in front of my exported softsynths.

I also have not experienced this with bitbridge. No problems here with the few 32bit plugs I still use. Have thought about getting jbridge but then I remember if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I checked mine and it's set to 0, which I assume is default, which I futher assume that it means that it does not use a buffer size for export independent of latency. Yes, 0 is the default for BounceBufSizeMsec; it means that SONAR will bounce using your real-time buffer size. This can lead to slow or failed bounces with some synths if it's very low, but I ran that way for years without knowing about the setting until I had a problem freezing a Rapture track, and raised it to 20. Some time after that, I got BFD Eco, and discovered the problem with BitBridge. But a lot of users run larger buffers in the Mixing/Mastering stage of CPU intensive projects, and that will precipitate the problem just the same. It could be argued that if you don't notice it, it's not a problem. But others might, or you might some time after a project has been committed to CD. Subtle errors like this can be more insidious than obvious ones.

My son is 8.5.3 and he says many of his older synths that failed in bitbridge also fail in jbridge (under W7 64bit). Mind you these are ooooooolder synths that still work in 32bit SONAR in W7 64bit.

jbridge is a one man show, but with GREAT support. He'll email suggestions as well as new builds if necessary. Bit bridge has a limit on memory. For example, with auto-tune evo or at7 with bit bridge it crashes if used on a song longer than 1:30 min. with jbridge, this is not the case. Mind you, you may have to tweak the settings (many options avail.) to get the right result. I'm using Giga Virtual Instrument from the old days within Vienna MIRse. hope that helps!

Clearly Cakewalk are happy to support jBridge by including the ability to use it directly from inside of the Plugin Manager thus choosing to bypass using BitBridge. I used Bitbridge all the time until I relealised that jBridge had a much cleaner interface that anebales some functions that can't be accessed when BitBridge is being used - now I use jBridge exclusively. I also use another DAW that supports 64 bit but doesn't have any native briodging built in. I use jBridge for that too.

I have found no plugin in my (rather extensive) collection which works better using JBridge...much to my chagrin. BitBridge seems to work better in most all instances. And JBridge also seems to work just as poorly on problematic plugs (i.e. SoundToys).

That's probably the main reason I prefer Jbridge - that and the extra preset access.

Recording automation seems to be a real issue with bitbridge. I tried recording automation of many 32 bit plugs (realguitar, miroslav etc.) under bitbridge and none of them worked. Very few automation nodes were created - ended up with some funky envelopes. That was the clincher for me, wrapping with jbridge so far I've been able to record automation OK. Realguitar now has 64bit support, but there's still quite a few 32bit only plugs out there. I get the feeling this is going to be the case for quite a while to come. Cheers - Cliff
