Wierd MIDI "Dropouts"
Hey there guys! I arrived at a problem that really bothers me, yet I can't figure out how to solve it! The thing is, that I've basically got a staight eight bass line in MIDI notes, however when playing it back some notes are not represented by the synth, no matter which one I use. If I freeze the synth, everything works out just fine! Any ideas? Regards

What Audio Interface are you using to play the audio? What soft synths are you using? How many audio tracks are playing? How many soft synth tracks are playing?

however when playing it back some notes are not represented by the synth, no matter which one I use. Some synths don't play notes out of the range of the sampled instrument. Try it with the TTS-1. That should play notes in any range. If that doesn't do it, check the velocity of the notes. If the velocity was too low, it may not trigger the synth.

If I freeze the synth, everything works out just fine! So that rules out above recommendations too. In your case it sound more like your maxing something out.

I think this must be about my 100th post on this subject - third one in the last 24 hours. Sure wish the Bakers would figure out how to automate the tuning of this parameter: Options > Global> MIDI tab Set the value of Prepare Using <value> Millisecond Buffers to 500 if it's lower than that. If it's at 500, try increasing in increments of 100 up to maybe a 1000. Usually something between 500 and 700 will work well.

No problem. Glad to help. I just hate to see so many people struggle with this problem. We've almost all encountered it at some point. It's a definite weakness of SONAR that it's so sensitive to this setting, and X1 defaults it to 250 where earlier versions defaulted to 500. 250 is too low for many systems in many situations. It mystifies me that soft synths can be played in real-time with a 1ms audio buffer, and yet the audio for existing MIDI tracks has to be buffered at more than two orders of magnitude higher. I don't know how other DAWs handle this, but I suspect this giant "MIDI" buffer is unique to SONAR, and a holdover from some ancient past processing limitation. I filed a feature request asking them to re-architect this some time ago, but I don't know if it's even on their radar. Given the number of posts about "dropped MIDI notes" you see here on the forum, it must generate a lot of e-mail and calls to tech support as well.

I made the mistake of fooling with this setting last night. I will change it back to 500 now, thanks. CPS

So glad I found this solution right away! I changed this buffer when experimenting with my new Auido/Midi interface.
