Will Cakewalk buy Gigastudio?

Now that TASCAM has dropped Gigastudio 4, has any one at Cakewalk or Roland thought of grabbing it?
The one glaring omission from Cakewalk's lineup is a quality sampler.
Logis has EXS24, MOTU has Mach5, Steinberg has HALion.
Cakewalk has ???

    I am registered Cakewalk user.
I began using Cakewalk on Win 3.1 with a Roland MPU-401.

    So you know the answer.

How many products has Cakewalk ever bought out?

    though...

someone will probably buy Giga. Tascam wasn't the first to own it if you remember.

Have you tried any of the Samplers that come with SONAR?

Hopefully not. Can you imagine the CS/TS nightmare that would be, having to support existing users?

    +1

also the fact, the source code might be like looking at spaghetti. It's done tascam no favours regardless.. I do feel sorry for the current users though.. been there myself with another company, but in their case they just vanished.

It would be a great thing if one of their competitors took the incentive to offer a cross-grade if they don't already.

yes, NI offers a crossgrade from ANY version of GS.

I just don't have $279 for NI tho.

Please, not Gigastudio -- Cakewalk has enough problems with Sonar right now.

Kontakt is a great sampler. I keep discovering impressive features, which is an experience reminiscent of my year 1 with Sonar.

On the other hand, using Gigastudio is like using Halion, both reminiscent of a dog's breakfast.

But in 50 million years someone will find a Gigastudio disk and try to resurrect it by adding the missing programming code from a modern word processor. It will work, but Giga will end up killing 3 people before I can be isolated on a tropical island and abandoned.

    ...ahh I kill me...

Beagle, see what Christmas brings. companies know are attention (and money) is elsewhere around that time and new year. see if they drop the prices a bit.. GPO did last year on their stuff, saved me 1/3 if I recall.

wasn't giga really expensive when you got it?

I would get all the giga users stateside together.. then 1 of you approach a retailer.. I'd like to buy x amount of copies of it.. see what they can do.

the price they ask and what you can haggle with in a pro-audio shop maybe different.. I always haggle when buying from DV in person.. If I didn't they'd think I was ill.

haggle ping pong is a good sport.. you play the retailers off against each other, within bounds.

yep. that's why I can't afford the crossgrade! actually, that and the fact that I've spent a lot of money lately on hardware.

    haggling's good.
