Will I be able to use Bluetooth to "fix" someone else's mix... from the dance floor?
How about changing a guitar efx patch on the fly? What if the guitar slinger is playing a preset I don't care for and I decide to change it right in the middle of the song? How easy is that? Is there any security built in to Blue Tooth that can keep bystanders from getting in on the action? best regards, mike

For Blootooth to work the devices have to be paired, which normaly involves a challenge/responce sequence of a 4 digit pin number on the receiving device (to prevent random others connecting to your equipment). Also, the broadcast name function can be turned off, preventing others from knowing your device even has bluetooth enabled, and thus preventing them from connecting unless they've previously slept with your wife/girlfriend/mistress to find out what the bluetooth device name is. Some functions, like file/photo sharing and push messaging, do not require pairing but you can't use those protocols to control someone elses device. Edit to add: Another method, used by PS3 controllers, involves connecting the devices together with USB first at which point the pairing is done automatically with no user input required.

So, there's still a chance I can change the guitarist's efx patch. :-)

MIkes question begs this comment about the security and pairing. Much Like wireless routers where the user leaves the password at its default, I wonder how many musicians would leave the BT pairing at 1234.

The default code varies with device. For most bluetooth ear pieces I've seen (the type you'd use with a phone) it's 0000 and is coded into the ear piece. The code for my car is also had coded. The device manual tells you what the code is.

For what it's worth, colouring one tooth with a blue marker may have less than satisfactory results.

As far as the FX, couldnt you just insert a track with your presets (with the volume down) then gradually bring his volume down as you bring your tracks volume up?

I think Mike's idea is to go to a gig and if he doesn't like the band, mess with the guitarists FX board by hacking into the bluetooth connection used by the remote pedal board...

Actually it could be lots of fun to let everyone in the audience do the remix live. Just keep the pyrotechnics on another pair code. :-)
