Will Sonar 5 work with original Layla 20?

With the need to do surround, I can no longer resist upgrading Sonar from Version 1 which works flawlessly with my trusty old Event/Echo Layla 20. Upgrading the DAW interface is not an option I'd like to take at this time since current finances would not permit me to upgrade the interface to what I really want. Purchasing a less expensive card more or less negates a major part of the justification for an even better interface down the road, if you know what I mean.

Has anybody successfully used Sonar 5 with the classic Layla? I am currently using the latest WDM drivers, of course, which do provide surround configuration.

Thanks

    Bob,
If this is any consolation I am still using a Gina 20 bit with absolutely no problems with SONAR 5 Producer. It has been a very solid functioning card, no complaints.

No. Echo has activately the "WWA" (won't work anymore) chip and as of 12 am January 1, 2006 no 20 bit Echo product work with Sonar.

My Gina 20 bit worked fine on my older PII PC that had Sonar 2.2 on it. When I went to a new computer a couple months ago the Gina did not operate well with either Sonar 2.2 or Sonar 5. I called Echo and they suspected it was a firmware issue with the Gina 20 bit essentially saying it was not very compatible with the latest PC architecture. They convinced me that a Gina 3G would work and it did. Hope that helps.

Apparently Echo's WWA chip's activation firmware isn't Pentium-4 compatible because the Layla still worked last night.

My machine is relatively new: 2.8GHz Asus P4PE. The only problem I ever had with the Layla was one isolated incident where the SPDIF output decided to spew digital hash and sent me diving for the power amp switch. Wouldn't clear up until I rebooted the CPU. Otherwise, it's quiet and still sounds OK for now.

I'm holding out for an Apogee Rosetta 800 and X-Firewire card whenever the right-paying gig comes along someday. Just want to get some reassurance that if it's working OK with Sonar 1 that it'll likely work as well with 5 without having to open up that other can o' worms. I've got a call into Cakewalk about it as well, but I figured the rest of you in the trenches have more real-world experience with this.

I am still using an EchoAudio Darla 20 with Sonar 5PE. I'm using the latest drivers on the echoaudio website and have had no issues whatsoever and can run down to 2.9ms latency with a fairly heavy load of softsynths/samplers and FX plugs.

My dual Echo Gina20 setup works fine with Sonar4. One note though, it doesn't work when using Cakewalk's Wave driver. I found running the Echo cards in "WDM" mode and either using Sonar's WDM driver selection or ASIO driver selection to work fine though. No "Purewave" mode using the Wave driver in Sonar though.
