Will X1B require X1A or will it go on " clean " from X1 ?

In the previous versions that is possible. I speak from experience when I say that they do not always check the update installations thoroughly. There may be differences in your resulting sonar installation. IMHO installing all updates in order is the best way to make sure you get it all correctly.

If a Lynx user installs X1a - there is a hotfix to apply so you get your drivers back. This hotfix is listed as a temporary solution for X1a.

This would indicate that the driver issue will be corrected in X1b so it won't need the termporary fix anymore. However - that is nothing but an assumption on my part. Hopefully someone from Cakewalk can confirm one way or the other.

The first item in the fixed list apppears to be the missing ASIO drivers.

You will have to install X1a prior to installing X1b, but no hotfix is required.

May I ask why Cake does this? Incremental patching is just asking for problems...

I don't see how it would 'double' the testing...

An inclusive patch would just install all previous versions if you needed them but in a slip stream manner. So there would be no chance of installing X1b on X1 since installing X1b would install X1a as well.

Also, in the rare case that patch 'f' breaks Sonar and patch 'g' fixes it - and inclusive patch would never leave Sonar in the 'broken state' - especially for new users who need to update from the original X1.

Anyway, I'm guessing speed is more important in this release... patch away.

I surely see the allure of a single patch to get SONAR up to date. How well it works does depend of course on how the patch is created. All I can say is that I've inquired and put forth the argument about this and my request was met with assurance that X1b would be delayed if it were "all-inclusive", at least partially due to the requirement of testing it under the scenarios I mentioned before.

I think the rationale is that even if we think X1b is all-inclusive it still needs to be tested, which delays release. X1b would still need to be tested against both patched (X1a) and non-patched SONAR in order to ensure that it is in fact working as an all-inclusive patch. If there were a problem, you can imagine the outcry.

Either way, I think most people at this point just want reliable updates to X1 as soon as they are available. Making the patches incremental is currently the fastest way to do this while keeping as many resources as possible devoted to actual fixes and enhancements. Having said that I think we will likely move towards a different model as time goes on. (Officially supporting fewer operating systems is also an option.)
