Will we see Sonar X1C in May?
Hello I was just wondering if we will see Sonar X1C in May? I am going to guess here and say that we will. Of course I could well be wrong. Cakewalk know that there is still some work to be done on Sonar X1 so I reckon they must be busy working behind the scenes. What does everyone else think?

Maybe it will be 1.1 with the additition of extra goodies (new plug-in or extra libraries). Nothing wrong with wishful thinking.

Of course I am aware of the quickfixes! However frankly while they may be helpful for existing users I dont think they are going to entice those who have not yet upgraded and are waiting to see if the program is improved before they do so. I can only guess by three of the answers aboue that they think this was a crank post when I can assure you it was totally serious. Only Sergiobklyn seems to have answered seriously. I have no idea what the others are talking about especially Tstorms.

no one at cakewalk has said anything on the forums to my knowledge about a "c" release or a point release. the only thing they've mentioned to date has been A, B and hotfixes. I personally will be surprised if they release a C unless it's nothing more than a "point release" to consolidate the hotfixes. I would further guess (my speculation only) that we're close to getting all we are going to get from this release and they are probably already working on X2 or whatever they're going to call it.

Hey Stevethesearcher - I guess you're just a serious kind of guy ;-) All I meant was that a serious question like that is bound to start an "interesting" thread considering all the differing perspectives on the condition of X1. It seems there are some that like X1 just the way it is and would see no need for X1c. Others acknowledge some things need to be fixed eventually. Then there are others like me... who don't think X1 is ready for prime time in some areas and are looking for X1c ASAP. I, like you, have no interest in installing and testing these quickfixes - I already paid. So, to answer your question seriously: the sooner the better if it's a solid release.

What I'm hoping for is, they keep release Quickfixes for X1 after the release of X2.

True ... but the Quickfix program is entirely new. It has a narrower focus than a full blown patch. I could see them continuing to work on fixing things for a while in the previous version after a new version has been released. Maybe have a deal where there is a new version released every year but there are patches still being released for each version for a period of two years? That's a lot better than the old way of doing things where it's 1 year and done.

I guess that's possible, and it certainly would be welcome! I'm not sure how many resources they would want to commit to that, tho, considering they would want most people working on the newest update. but I do agree it would be a good thing to have!

I'm with Beagle I do not expect to see anything but quick fixes, which will eventually stop, when they decided what the next revenue input pint will be called.

I'm thinking there will be at least one more major update for X1. Does anyone remember the gapless audio engine thread? I don't think Noel was asking what areas do we want to have seamless playback for nothing. Sure it could be that he was asking this so that seamless playback for particular areas could be implemented in the next upgrade of SONAR (X2 or whatever it will be called,) but I think he was asking so an update could be released for X1. Just my two cents worth, but here's hoping for the best. :)

It seems logical that Cakewalk would release one more point (or letter) release that consolidated all the patches and quick fixes so any new customers would simply have to install a single file, and not worry about build 245, 246, 247 etc. X1c really makes the most sense to accomplish that. When? Soon thirty I'm sure. Another thought. If they do release an X1c to consolidate all the patches etc. they would then have a demo ready version, which certainly must be on the radar. I would also expect a few goodies and unexpected bug fixes since the latest releases and quick fixes seem to have stabilized the platform enough and added some breathing room to get this thing really dialed in. X1c, if released could be a real pleasant surprise.

Tstorms and Wookie. If I misinterpreted your posts then my apologies. I seriously thought there was going to be a Sonar X1C. After all isnt there a rough consensus here that Sonar X1 was one of the most problematic Sonar releases so far at least as far as its initial release. Also there was a Sonar 8.5.3 so there was three versions of that so that also led me to assume there would be a third update to Sonar X1 Personally a final update in May makes sense to me followed by the inevitable yearly upgrade later in the year. Finally I wasnt trying to start a debate about how stable or unstable Sonar X1 is. I was merely thinking that since Sonar X1 has been such a major overhaul of Sonar that they would try and make it as stable as they can for as many Sonar users as they can. Hope I have clarified my position.

Hope I have clarified my position. No problem. From the stability stand point for me. X1B build 246 seem stable when working on projects started from scratch. However it would appear to suck when opening project from 8.5.3 or prior. I have two projects both using identical instruments one created in 8.5.3 and one in X1 one is fine the other rather predictably crashes particularly on exit. As to point releases I think 4 has been the most with SONAR 5 but this may be bad Wookiee memory.

So far each quickfix consolidates the ones that went before so eventually the last quickfix will will be all that will be needed to add to X1b. I don't expect to see any kind of major update to a new point release except that they may announce the last quickfix and give it a special name - perhaps even X1C. I'd reckon that the next quickfix will be the last.

I wouldn't expect X2 till about March 2012. The last cycle from 8.5 to X1 was 15 months (approx sept 2010 to Dec 2011) with a significant shortfall in the real time needed to make it stable, as evidenced by the fixes needed and general problems with the rollout. So I reckon with 15 months between cycles then that would make it at the very earliest, March 2012. In fact; thiking about it now it would make sense to amke it more like end of Q2 next year leaving 18 months between releases to really make X2 a winner all round. Just another opinion of course but something has to change doesn't it? i mean can Cakewalk afford another X1 next release?

can Cakewalk afford another X1 next release? Absolutely! X1 was "the most successful version of Sonar ever."!! The boys in suits upstairs will be chomping at the bit for X2! Tongue in cheek, of course, but maybe there is a hint of truth in the above?

Don't expect any fixes for SONAR non x1. I would think Cake would want to get out 1 or 2 quickfixes to keep/make customers happy. I would expect to see X2 back to the yearly cycle for the revenue. Since X1 was a "new DAW 2.0" it needed more time, but I'm sure Cake needs money, too. A gapless engine would be a big selling point, esp. if they put in something like a new beatscape to make SONAR more like live. And I would expect to see more customization put back in, since so many old customers want it and hey, they won't be able to help themselves or change their spots. New instrument, and an expansion of the ProChannel as selling points. An upgrade in convolution would be nice, too. SONAR X2 - it will change everything. DAw 3.0. @
