Win 10 anniversary update

Hi

Anyone getting an update error 0x80070057 and cannot get it to load.
There are a few fixes on other forums but I do not want to fiddle with the registry and should not have to.
Some say use media creation tool  or Iso and that means clean install of your whole system

It has taken me ages to get Sonar and vst's to work flawlessly and I am frightened that this update Is going to upset the whole system.
It seems another Microsoft bungle!!

Anyone getting my problem???

After it downloads the update and as it installs, disable your wireless and wired network (or just disconnect from any internet).

I have done that on 3 machines so far with success.

An evolving OS was Apple's idea except they work toward making hardware obsolete.  I would be curious if they .iso works like other MS OS and have an upgrade install.

BTW is there any way to know if your machine has it already installed?   I'm using W10 Pro.  I think one machine upgraded it because Classic Shell was disabled and network password protection was turned on.

The .iso has the 'Keep your Programs and Data Option'. Choose this option to upgrade from the .iso installer.

    Hi
Tried disconnecting and reconnecting and Windows says something Is wrong.
I go to my updates and It states everything Is updated with your present time.
I look In the update section and the last successful update was on 07/15/2016 or 07/15/2016.
I do have a successful adobe acrobat update on the 4th August.
Do we need the Anniversary update  with all the bells and whistles or does normal updates carry on as It says you can roll back If you do not like It??

To answer the question posed in one of the responses, you can verify if the update was installed by going to Settings:System:About. The anniversary update will cause the version to be reported as 1607.

Stalemate at the moment mine is 1511

I dare not fiddle with the registry or I will get my fingers burnt again. My machine tells me it is up to date with the 1511 update.
I would of thought Microsoft would had an answer by now, but there seems to be people all over the place trying to convince you of their quick fixes when It should be coming from Microsoft.
I think Microsoft use people as guinea beta test piggies.!!!
The only solution I can think of at the moment Is a bottle of wine tonight with a fillet steak!!

Why were you reconnecting? You download the update by going the the microsoft url I posted above, click on "Get the Anniversary Update now" and it downloads "Windows10Upgrade28084.exe". You run that executable. It will check the system for compatibility and then it will download. Once it downloads and starts to install, kill internet connectivity to the computer you are upgrading.  Then let it finish completely (which takes a long time), it will say wlecome and go through the setting again like it did the fist time you logged in, but all your data is still there.

I've done this twice more after I posted, so it definitely works.

look up 'perform a clean boot' for upgrading... turn off local progs in msconfig, disconnect all usb devices, unplug internet, reboot... then run your upgrade ISO or USB

I had that error as well and had to use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to get it to install without error. Yes, the default configuration was to keep all your existing data and user files.

I had no error message but here is my experience. I downloaded the anniversary update installed it then had to restart my PC. During restart and into the process about 20 minutes it a was about 5AM in the morning and my electricity in my apartment shut on and off! You know, when your computer say please don't turn off your computer right now? Well it did. Happy anniversary! hehe so i restarted and I was really lucky! Built into the update was auto restore to previous Windows version. I really did not have to do anything, it took me back to my old Windows 10 before the anniversary update. I ran windows update, it downloaded again, installed again and I had to restart. This time the electricity did not fail but it took a long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long time. :) once I got to Windows the anniversary update had installed and was fine!

But yesterday my computer simply lost contact with my sound card. Cakewalk could not detect my Roland quad capture audio interface. I tried lots of stuff. I could go into about 20 things I tried but the thing that worked was  deleting my quad capture driver in device manger and letting Windows install them again with a restart. Sound came back!

I do like the anniversary update especially Cortana just enable her and say "take a note" she asks what's the note you tell her and she puts your note into one note. This I find handy. Then say "open onenote" and choose which onenote to use.

TBH, after going through the list of whats in the update, I think I will give it a big miss. None of the stuff really interests me. It seems Cortana and Edge are the "big ticket" updates and as I use neither, I can see no real reason to change things. This is assuming I continue to get "regular" updates without being forced to take the Anniversary one, and at this stage this seems to be so.

Might be worth mentioning that the update may also reinstate any previously disabled audio drivers such as onboard sound cards. Check device manager and disable them again.
I have to do this virtually every time I get a major update

Sonar Platinum - Windows 10 Pro 64bit - AMD FX 8150 processor - 16Gb RAM - 27" Monitor (it's not the size that counts, it's what you do with it)
