Win 10...more memory...load balancing...SPLAT...less performance...Sheesh

I've been (with the help of the great Jim Roseberry) trying to track down and fix any and all anomalies in my DAW which might be causing the poor performance I'm getting since switching to Win 10 and upping my memory from 12gigs to 24gigs.  I'm using the latest edition of  SPLAT and have tried both with and without the new load balancing thingy and without is mucho better, at least on my setup.

My basic problem is that I now am drastically limited in both track count and plugin count before running into pop/crackle and stutterville.  I have to freeze or bounce most all tracks and have my latency maxed out (1024) to mix projects that are much less track and plug intensive than old X3 projects which had many tracks loaded with plugins...only a few frozen...and running fine at much lower latency settings.

I loves me some SPLAT and thought that doubling my memory and upgrading to Win 10 would usher in a new era of major mixing ability.  But, alas, no.  I realize that many of the new plugins I am enamored of are pretty cpu intensive but this problem happens even without them in the projects.

I am sorely tempted to sell my Kemper Profiler and just let Jim build me a newer, hotter killer diller machine...but I'm not sure that would solve anything.

If any of you have been or are going down a similar path please share any info you have.  I'd shore appreciate it.

Thanks for listening.

Man alive, if Jimbo can't solve the problem we mere peons would probably be of no use to you olpal.

Well, we are probably of no use to you anyway, but that's an entirely different subject and far be it from me to hijack your serious thread with that blabber.

Oh Jim made things VASTLY better...he remoted in to my DAW and fixed and cleaned up all manner of things.  It was tres fun to watch.  I tried to remember as much as I could as the mouse went places and did things.  He's a true wonder.

I'm running much the same machine from Jim I think - but mine is only 64bit 2600k CPU i7 at 3.40Ghz and only 16 Gb ram - I am now using a Focusrite Saffire pro 40 - not having major problems even using the new Izotope Neutron, which does seem pretty CPU Hungry - the only major difference I think I can see is that I have stayed on Windows 7 - Far be it for me to make technical suggestions but could the Windows 10 be the issue - just a suggestion??
I've got a couple of large projects on the go at the moment - about 40 tracks I suppose with quite a few Synths) and can run the Focusrite at 512 when tracking - obviously I put it to 1024 when just mixing.

Yup...I'm suspecting it's a Win 10 deal.  But, dimbulb that I am, what do I know?

I am on Windows 10, though not as powerful of a computer as you guys, but load balancing on mine makes the cores more even but I get pops and crackles sooner so I turned it off.  Running mostly plug-ins and only one or two light synths.

I don't think the amount of ram has a big effect on daw performance, given that you have some minimum required to run, other than loading and playing back samples and instruments.

It's probably safe to assume that JR got all your drivers up to speed and disabled the wi-fi. I had issues with my sound card fighting with onboard audio and video card audio. Being clever, I disabled them. Windows, being even smarter than me, turned them all back on during an update.
I rolled back to the September release because the last couple didn't get along with my system and I thought I'd sit out a little progress. So many changes that it was getting hard to tell what my "usual" system response was.
I wonder if tri-channel ram is fully compatible with recent changes like load balancing. It seems to be a PC feature that I don't see any more. Since OP had 12 gig initially I assume that it's using tri-channel ram.
