I have Win 7 64 bit on my DAW system.  The only thing I've done is turn off all system sounds.  Nothing else.  I'm using a USB connected audio interface unit.

Blackviper.com has the lists and descriptions.

"tis pretty much the same as wX, and wV.

Note: w7 uses the new improved task scheduler to start programs not listed in msconfig startup, and the services.msc interface.

I have stopped everything auto: updates, stop adobe reader/flash updates, java update. And any manufacturers' update programs.

Do not install any browser toolbars, especially the google toolbar, it is not possible to stop the updater. Sad to say. (My audio computer is connected to the network. I update windows at least weekly. And I use IE to visit this forum when needed during recording.)

The search indexer is supposed to run only when idle, but this means the process is watching. I use a 2nd computer for all documents, notes, update files,... so I do not need the search function.

Some services are without reason: some network stuff, if no wireless card disable wireless service, remote access support,...

Set the pagefile to "system managed" for ONLY the OS disk. Disable for others.

Set power/hibernate and "screen saver" to never.

    And so on.

Also: from black viper, download the factory settings registry file. 'tis good to have when something weird has happened. A way to restore defaults and start again.

And as always, set a restore point, and export the registry before you start the journey.

I know you know all this but never can tell who might lurk by.
