Win 8 Pro and Media Center?

I always used windows media player for a quick listem=n on stuff I exported or whatever to hear thru my PC speakers. Since it doesn't come with 8 I figured why not take the free offer. I did and I am regretting it-I have no interst whatsoever to watch tv or movies on my laptop, etc. I am about to undo it-I'll just use some 3rd party player I guess.
Anyone done the media center upgrade to Win Pro 8? If so, what do you think-keep it or lose it?

Is this wher you got it?
I believe MP for Win 8 is not tied to Media Center? I could be wrong though.

I have "Media Center" (not to be confused with "Media Player") and use it only for watching DVDs.

Windows 8 does still have "Media Player" which I use in the same way as you -- to quickly audition a newly burned CD.

Go to the start menu. Right click and turn on "all apps".
Scroll over to "Windows Accessories" and you will see it: "Windows Media Player"

Go to your desktop: Settings/Control Panel/Default Programs/Change Auto Play Settings.
    Scroll down to CDs/Audio CD/
and select from the pull down menu: "Play Audio CD (Windows Media Player)

Now when you put in an audio CD, "Media Player" will automatically start.

    Hey

Sort of-a page like that except the new laptop (well all win pcs) came with $14.99 for Win 8 Pro . But the page looked the same and I had to give me email address and they sent me a product key for media center.
I found an easy way to uninstall  media center-but I would lose the sonar install and the plugs-bummer.

I was using wireless n with the laptop and just disabling it when I run Sonar and the perfectly working Octacapture :-0.

But one I put media center in I had all these media devices on the network,. I am not into that stuff at all.

I guess I can leave it for a while. I don't really feel like reinstalling sonar, ozone alloy, rapture, Dim pro, etc.

Well that's great! A few days ago I had a fiasco with win 8 and the laptop-and activation. I was told-by 2 microsoft CS reps that windows media player was NOT included with win 8. I found 2 blogs that said the same thing? What is with alkl this misinformation? Jeeezzz.

Mike-does media center get in your way at all?

Media Player is installed with Win8, but it doesn't play DVDs, so that's really the main thing Media Center does. It lets you play DVDs in Win8. But you didn't need to install MC to play MP3s, etc. Media Player was already there.

    @Stratman
    +1 to what StepD said.

"Media Center" does not get in the way at all.
It's good for watching X2 instruction DVDs. :-)
