Win 8 X2A Mixdown clicks and pops. Can't get the job done.

Play back of the mix, ONE audio track, ONE soft synth ONE midi track minor crackles and pops. When I record a mixdown there are bigger clicks and crackles and an occasional glitch. I've bypassed the effects bin on the mixdown track (breverb, LP64 multi comp, Boost 11)  I've turned off everything I can in Windows 8. Makes no difference than when everything was on. High performance win 8 setting.

It's unusable and I've wasted hours.

Is it X2A or RME or WIN 8???

Win 8 32bit Latest updates as of this morning (things now worse! - coincidence?)
RME HDSP9632 latest driver asio 256 samples, timing Internal
Q660 2 Meg
ASUS P5K SE 11.04 bios
system drive
internal audio drive.

No problems with audio with this system (older RME drivers) on xp Sonar 8.53 (Wish I'd stayed with it.)

Its not sonar causing it as  everyone would be having this issue and they don't. I export allot of songs daily and if there are any artifacts in it, its by user error or a pc or sonar setting.

Here are things i would do:
    1. First thing i would check is to check for any IRQ conflicts - Here'something that will help you look for it and fix it - IRQ conflicts
    2. Then i would check for any clipping and any of the gain stages.
    3. Then i would check the routings for all the tracks to make sure all tracks go to the Master Bus and that all Buses go to the Master Bus and that your Master Bus goes to your Main Outs 1/2
    4. Make sure your driver settings for your sound card are optimal for that project at hand
    5. Make sure your export settings are correct. Select main outs 1/2 for your source
I would do those things first to see if it fixes the issue before going in further

...or just stick with Windows7.... I tried win8...had a lot of problems... my gear: p5qpro Q9300 8Go, RME FF UFX & EMU 1820...had big problems with soft synths: audio engine breakdown, clicks and  crackles... I went  back to win7, and everything works like a charm...

I would add that if you were using the fast bounce option turn that off as some synths do not like it

I thought about it for a min and I think I had to reinstall the drivers for my raydat and video card after the win 8 updates I ran last week. You may want to try removing the RME drivers, reboot and reinstall them.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

CJ, I'd already done  your points 2-5. I'll check out the IRQ conflicts because it sounds like that kind of problem. Thanks for the link. Are you running X2A on Win 8?

ambolik: interesting to hear your report of Win 8. I see on the forum that others are having audio issues too . I was previously on XP so wouldn't be able to run X2 if I re installed.

Tom I havent installed drivers for my video card - I just went with the MS Win 8  1.1 video drivers. I do have Win 7 drivers for the card. Perhaps I should try them.
