Windows 10 15063 update caused MIDI dropouts!
Hi all, This is my first post on Cakewalk's forum so I felt that I should make it informative. Yesterday I updated Windows 10 to the latest 15063 "creative" update and all was well except for one very important thing. I fired up SP, loaded a project I'm currently working on, and hit the space bar. To my dismay small portions of MIDI playback would arbitrarily dropout. Prior to the update I had yet to experience such drama. I raised some buffer settings to no avail. I raised ASIO buffer size in both VSL controller and SP but ZIP...nada...nothing. The dropouts kept coming. So what did I do, I reverted to the prior version and BAM! No dropouts. I should have left well enough alone especially when I'm not experiencing any issues at all. I just wanted to see what I can see. I suffer from EAS.... Early Adopter Syndrome. Hope this may help someone. Regards, Sajid

As I stated, I rolled back to the previous version of Win 10 and that took care of the issue.

Probably best to not label the thread as solved. It will alert other users to a possible issue without implying there is a solution. It is not so much solved as avoided:)

Raising buffer levels was the first thing I tried but the dropouts still continued.

Look on the Computer Sub forum for a thread about the update. I myself will remain "unplugged" from the internet until the smoke clears,,, just like the last update. MS is determined to build an OS that serves the status quo but forces us to waist hours and hours fixing all it breaks. I work for a health authority and we have thousands of PC's. They just upgraded all the CPU's, monitor's etc. The tech say's the plan is to stay W7 for at least another 5 years. W10 would be a disaster for our huge network and security. Not only that, most of the medical equipment that uses drivers. like in imaging, would stop working. A DAW is like a business computer in many ways, I would return to W7 on my DAW at the drop of a hat if things go sideways with W10.

I raised both MIDI and ASIO and I still would get dropouts.

There are a few ways to get it done but this is how I did it: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Update history > Uninstall updates > "To uninstall an update, select it from the list and then click Uninstall or Change" That's how I did it. Hope that helps.

Hi. It seems I keep having the same trouble with Win 10 creators update. When checking that all programs run smooth, my Sonar Professional had dropouts when trying to export a mix (complete arrangement). It happened always at the same time point, so I suppose it has to do with one of the VStIs, a Roland synth. This starts playing 2 mins after beginning of the piece, when the bouncing gets there audio engine stops. I cannot close Sonar. Only way is by clicking on the X, and say close anyway. An error report is being sent but only to Microsoft. I'd love to find that one to relay it to the tech support @ Calekwalk for possible fixing (awaiting next update by end of April). Thankx.

Mad_Musicologist Hi. It seems I keep having the same trouble with Win 10 creators update.
If your dropout issue wasn't happening prior to the update, try rolling back to the prior Windows 10 version. If the update created the issue than you have isolated the problem. Stay rolled back. Hope that helps!

Thanks for following up. In fact, roll back isn't my strategy, expecting that sooner or later the update becomes inevitable. So I searched and found the Windows error reports pertaining to the subject. I contacted Cakewalk support for tech help, and attached those reports. Let's see what happens next.

Not yet, but if the soundcard drivers are affected by the update, there should be new files. I'll check by the soundcards update monitor. But I think this is not much probable, since only 1 VSt-instrument is affected. For checking, I took a track which is really loaded with a lot of VSt-I and VSt-Fx. But I shall check for updates for the soundcard.

I just upgraded my motherboard and thought I would do clean install of my daw to get fresh start. Windows media creation tool of course, made the creators update version. All seemed ok first but I noticed bad dropouts in a track I had not had before. The dropout was first noticed on a track with Zeta +2. Could not figure out the reason, tried all kinds of settings but no help. Then I found this thread. So I can confirm it too. I have been using the old 1511 Win10 version until now with no problems. So In will have to restore my image of that again. Very disappointed I the windows creator update for DAW. A whole night wasted installing it all yesterday. Nut using sonar but Cubase. So same thing there.
