Windows 10 Home or Pro?
Just about to try Windows 10 on one of my PC's. Those of you that have installed it already and are running Sonar, did you choose the Home or Pro editions? Thanks:) Bruce.

IF you already have home you need to download home. If you have professional or Ultimate you will download pro.

When you use the free upgrade (from Win 7 or Win 8.1 only), the upgrade will be the same version as you currently have. You don't get to choose which version. Also, you can't do a clean install of Win 10, initially. You have to upgrade. You can do a clean install after the upgrade, using the product code of the version that was upgraded. The ten forums have lots of info on Win 10 www.tenforums.com

Yes, you can choose which you download, but if you currently own Win7 Home or Win8 Home, I'd be very curious to know if you get to choose which you get to install. Scuttlebutt says, under those circumstances, you won't be able to install Win10 Pro without paying for an upgrade (if you can at all). Please let us know how it works out.

If it's the wrong version you get asked for your serial number to confirm you're upgrading at the correct level.

Not really a test. I would just have been very surprised if you had Home and could choose to upgrade at download time without paying an upgrade fee. :)

I certainy could have chosen either version at download Ron. I was using using a MS link that allows you to download an iso to upgrade another computer. The problem would not have become apparant until installation.

My installer was the same for home and pro. When I typed in the Pro Key, it became Pro. Mine was a clean install, not an upgrade.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Pro is always the best choice. It is easier to configure. And for w10, the word is, auto updates cannot be disabled in home. (??) There are now beginning to be utilities, and other hacks, to modify the stupid stuff. But, pro always is the best choice. Pro can act as a remote desktop server. I use this for all the computers in the house. And from very remote access. Currently using a non-dedicated audio computer.

Microsoft has made it easy. In the settings you can get a product key or upgrade to another version by following a link. It's not free, but it's easy to do. I didn't get into it so no details. If you want anything from a phone to a PC, MS wants you to buy it from them. Hence the embedded store. I'm enjoying Win 10 PRO, but there are a few bugs and definitely a push to make you buy new software.
