Windows 10 Recent Update Issue

My studio computer using Windows 10 just updated a day or two ago. When I started up my Sonar X1 Producer and opening a project I started getting an intermittent white noise.  This has never happened before so am looking for a solution.  My interface is a PreSonus AudioBox iTwo with the firmware up to date.  I haven't looked to see if there are any recent updates for Sonar thinking there won't be anymore.

I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Richard

    Latest X1 is X1D.
Sounds like you may need to uninstall/reboot and reinstall your audio interface drivers (latest).

I hope you are doing backups to an external hard disk with something like Acronis Trueimage regardless.

If you've ever installed ASIO4ALL remove it completely.

Does one of your plug-ins need to be re-authorized by any chance? On one of my big Win updates recently, my ARC 2 calibration plug-in was emitting intermittent 'white noise', which I couldn't figure out until I opened it to find I needed to re-authorize it again. Just a thought.

Its likely from a plug-in that needs re-authorization and is also likely 3rd party and not sonar.  Do you have any IK products like Necter or T-Racks because they will cause that if not authorized

I've got two accounts on my PC and in one of them (which I mainly use for web browsing) I get intermittent white noise and I have assumed it is because one of my plugins haven't been authorised under that user profile. I may be wrong but it seems to tie in with your problem. In my case I think it is IK Sampletank 3 Free

I've seen many people say this about ASIO4ALL.
    What's so wrong with it?
    Just curious.

ASIO4ALL seems to be a crapshoot.  Works for some, does not work or causes problems for others.

The people who bash it are people who actually don't use it. It is true that it has a reputation for trashing certain peoples set ups. But I think this totally is system dependent.  And like all software it has been under constant development and it's latest version possibly resolved these issues.
I use it and it works better than any other driver for using on board sound. I would never use it in place of a proper ASIO driver for an audio interface. But sometimes you find your self out there with just your laptop and time to kill. So a little midi editing with Sonar. You can use WASAPI as well so there is no real reason to install asio4all. But being one to not miss a chance to find out for myself I installed it a year ago to my laptop. Overall it made it more responsive and the loop back test came back 100% in sync. So personally I'm now a fan.

And the interference with other drivers might no longer be true. At least not for me.
Just last night I was setting up this same laptop so my partner can record his parts at his house. So I installed the drivers for my Scarlett 6i6. I opened Sonar Plat and didn't have to do any adjusting. Everything was 100% set to use the Scarlett. Asio4all was still on the in/out list but grayed out along with the Tascam which I had also installed drivers for. .

If the interface is on, Sonar uses it. If it is off or unplugged Sonar uses asio4all.
Possibly its the fact that these drivers are solid. An iffy ASIO driver might not act the same.

I recall something with the white noise...being tied to all the mixers tracks fx in the on position with no effects being used, was causing issues...turning off the track effects on all tracks solved the noise...But I think that started after x1,...not sure give it a go..no harm eh?

p.s......or it might have been pro channel? causing the noise, I'm trying to recall?...turning them off helped solve in one of the versions of X.

If intermittent noises?...Driver or  device setup of bit rates buffers mismatch?, might be something to check audio device in control panel preferences, and select all the bit rates and if driver for your audio device applet is matching....tick exclusive app use box...so nothing else interrupts, or tries to change the bitrate and buffers...perhaps?.

make sure no other app is using audio device, or sharing the audio device...could be getting reset and lost or dropped driver issues as apps fight for usage...win 10 and bing explorer spying/ties to audio device drivers dependencies...may call to use may cause intermittent issues also.

Windows 10 caused me to give up the audio PC dream with my gear...too much trouble, troubleshooting the troubles they make happen over at MS (micro shift)..circular motions going nowhere seeking a fix, and always waiting on updates to solve issues, the updates fix, and then sabotage..lol...and they keep moving settings and setup pages, to frustrate more so how to...or remove to compound and  confound...why?....hmmm more drugs to buy from the good doctor, to remove the headache ...or go to win 8.1 or 7 might stop this....?

A good cup for coffee would of been better served large size with I love Cakewalk Sonar..But hate MS might of brought in more dosh for a continued line of hope.

might be something with diagX?..direct X app..have you.tried testing your driver audio device in that ,and reading any results in,  there after?....HDMI and that dx 12...I wonder about that also.

Any hoot....try...and Let us know when you find...or solve please.

    Cheers!

A periodic "white noise" is almost certainly a plug-in that needs authorization! Just disable all effects and VSTis and see if it goes away!
