Windows 10 and Firewire 400 and AMD RYZEN TR2950

Hi, I am shopping around for a new computer.  I am currently using a RME UFX.  Talking to the local comp. store, the saleman told me that win 10 does not support firewire 400, can anyone confirm that?  as well I was wondering if anybody had experience with the AMD RYZEN CPU's.  I am looking at a TR2950X.

    Running a M-Audio FW 410 on Windows 10.

A salesman at a local computer store is always the best way to get misinformation where pro audio is concerned.  Go to the RME forums.

I have a FW400 connection with my MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid. Works perfectly in Win 10 (including latest V1809).

There have been comments that the Intel's are better for a DAW (lower latency) and Ryzen's better for gaming.  That's been a couple of months ago, maybe newer Ryzen's are better.

General-purpose computer guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
Firewire controllers work just fine under Win10.
Make sure to get a good TI chipset controller.
We have many clients who are running Firewire audio interfaces under Win10.
Tom Deering (forum member here) is running a Firewire audio interface with a new Win10 based DAW.

One downside with Ryzen is no Thunderbolt support.
If you ever want to move to a Thunderbolt audio interface (to really push the limits of low round-trip latency), there are no Thunderbolt-3 controllers available for AMD machines.

Another thing to keep in mind, many applications are not specifically optimized for AMD.
It's not that they don't work... but you might encounter small issues.
ie:  When running a Ryzen processor, Boost 11 would produce clicks.  Same project when running an Intel CPU was click/glitch free.  You can obviously work around these types of issues, but it's something to be aware of.
