Windows 10

I signed up to get Windows 10 free, as I'm sure a bunch of you guys might have....? haha
Anywho, coming from Windows 7 I'm curious how well Sonar will play with the new OS.

I'm sure it'll play fine. Sonar has always been good about updating to new technologies. I imagine it'll need to be released first though before they do final certification for it.

Some are currently using Platinum on Win 10 Preview...so it should be fine once all is
said and done...

I'm more worried about how long it's going to take Roland to get the VS100/700 drivers out for 10.

I have Win 10 pre release installed on my backup PC, on a separate hard drive.  I have Sonar Platinum installed and what I've tried has all worked OK.  Same way with my hardware - Roland Studio-Capture, BCF2000 and Frontier Tranzport.  I did have to install the Tranzport in a Windows 7 compatibility mode, but I had to do that in Windows 8/8.1 too as the only drivers available were issued for Vista.

My backup PC is almost a mirror of my Primary system (in my signature), except for a different model ASRock Z77 motherboard.

I just installed 10 preview, and I'll keep you posted. So far, so good. I am fully backed up and only have one small 5 piece Petty'ish ballad project atm.  I am a retired Mac/Windows certified tech so figured I'd help out the community and report any issues I have.

I still cannot get the "Get Windows 10" app to show up on my Win 7 Pro machines.

1. I am on Service Pack 1
2. Automatic updates are turned on
3. All machines are up to date (via Windows Update)
4. All machines have been rebooted

The only machine that has it is my lappy which is Win 7 Home Premium.

WTH am I doing wrong?

Right now all I want to do is verify that my DAW will run Win 10. The lappy is good to go but it's a non-DAW.

You aren't running window enterprise?
Otherwise they are probably ignoring you on purpose.

BTW if you want to validate that it will run on windows 10 you are far better off running the windows 8.1 upgrade assistant. The checks being made with the applet are superficial at best.

Re-post from other thread:

I have another system that I just built. After doing all the Windows updates, I still had no Windows 10 icon showing up in the task bar.

This worked for me:

Immediately after running the script, the Get Windows 10 app icon showed up.

I've been running it and ALL of my DAW's work find, as do all my plugins etc...

I'm pretty impressed as it is seems to be a much more "pleasing" environment
then Win 8.1

Good to know....I also haven't seen the Win 10 update in my task bar.
The main hardware drivers I need are for my Focusrite 2i4 and NI's Maschine......if those are good to go, I'm IN!!

Sonar works fine in 10. IE and Edge(Spartan) are buggy and lock up frequently. Waterfox seems to work better than all 3. I won't put Chrome on..........

I would guess the pleasing part, is that it just looks like it means business without being all technical... I move around in it very well.

Re: Windows 10 2015/06/11 22:12:10 (permalink)
I couldn't make heads or tails out of it when I last had it installed. I could give it another try.  Over the years, I've pretty much tried them all........... IE being one of my least favorites! I'm not sure what I would gain over Waterfox. I'm not much on ads, and adblock plus works well. IE had some kind of blocker, but the instructions for porting it to Edge were wrong, so I got ads. They both crash anyway, so no biggie.

I remember one of the things I didn't like was it wanted me to log in to Windows with my gmail addy. Seemed a bit intrusive to me.

Well I installed it and got adblock plus back!!!! I made it default and we'll see how it goes.

Did I mention that I also play bass? Altho I can dance a bit...with my lady.

I like the start menu better then the "Start Screen" that was in Win 8/8.1
It seems a little more robust.  There are some things that take getting used to,
but all in all it's been very stable.  The new "Edge" browser is ok.

There will be a learning curve, but if you're familiar with Win 8/8.1 it won't
be too big a deal...

Ten years ago dual core was hot tech. Now 6 cores, eight cores, 4 cores with eight threads is the norm. I'm hoping 8 to 10  will have as much added multi core handling as7 to 8 did. My i7 is way more stable on 8 than it was on 7. If 8 to 10 is as big of an improvement I will be over joyed.

Got it installed. All works. Much less latency, but Sonar seems to lock up and crash.....a LOT...... seems to be mostly around if you have a VST synth interface open at the same time that you rewind and hit play. If the editing aspects of that VST synth are open, seems to crash more often than not.
