Windows 7 64 and Yamaha SW1000XG

I'm putting this post in both soft, and hardware as it belongs in both.

Just wondering if anyone is running a Yamaha SW1000XG on any new (ish) systems running windows 7 64 bit?
I managed to install the most recent drivers on my windows 7 machine without any error messages but they were listed as, *not recognised" in the device manager.
I was planning on using it for the midi and having it for my windows default audio sounds as it was in my last machine.

Some folks may laugh and although midi sounds are never the most desirable, the SW1000XG still has some better sounds than sampletank, dimension pro and others and uses no cpu and is just quicker so if I can get it working it's always going to be worth having.

I heard somewhere that the problem wasn't with windows 7 but with the chipsets on the new boards.
Anyone verify this? I guess you'd have to be running windows 7 on an older board to jbow.
Cheers
Steve

I have been trying to do the same and for the same reasons! Also on Win 7 64bit. I ran in exactly the same problems; the installer runs fine, but device is not recognised as an audio and/or MIDI device.

Unfortunately, I still haven't found a solution to this.

I just read the guy on the SW1k forums post again. he claims to have got it working but on second reading I noticed he didn't say whether it was on 64 or 32 bit so I'm guessing it must have been on 32 bit.
Yamaha never wrote drivers for 64 bit. There was a suggestion of running the "windows xp environment" that you can run from within windows 7 but I don't think it runs at hardware driver level, only program level also it's not avaliable for home premium users which I am.

Yes - I think I read the same thread. 'Tis a shame, cos the SW1K is a great card and dunno if it's nostalgia or not, but I still love the sounds (& effects!). And very handy for playing MIDI files too. Also a shame there doesn't seem to be any XG VSTi out there (well, think there used to be a japanese one bundled with some soundcards or something?).

    Ah well!

I run an sw1000 under vista..

but the way I work it... have an 1010LT , and the sw1000 goes into that, and I only use the sw1000 MIDI part of the driver.. NOT the audio / asio driver..

not tried in 64 bit, but you only wanna use the sw1000 SOLELY as a midi card. the audio is seperate and you'll still get the midi out.. and I just feed that into another audio card (in my case the LT)

I recently got an MU128 (and fitted 2 cards to it) , I'd been looking for an mu-100r for YEARS.

the other big issue is the board voltage, a lot of newer boards won't support it.. IRC the sw1000 runs at 5 volts and newer pci is 3.3 volts.

Yes, that's the way I ran it under XP too; digital out of Sw1K into digital in of my Echo MIA and indeed only using the SW MIDI driver. It was however unstable once I moved to a new motherboard, and think it was indeed b/c of the voltage issue.

Been on the lookout for an MU128 as well, but I just can't justify the average asking price for a 2nd hand unit (considering the fact that I have Kontakt 4, Dim Pro etc...so not exactly short on sounds!)

How do rate konact 4? I was toying with the idea of it but I really would like to try before I buy at that price. I would imagine the sounds (orchesral in particular) would be far superior to the SW1000XG
I would be a first time buyer of contact so I think it's around £350 new?

you'd better off getting komplete.. IF you could.. I mean I wanted kontakt BUT it works out far cheaper combined. DV is in bristol or was ? :)

as  for strings hhmm better as "groups" .. I use GPO , which is good for single strings.. I got microslav recently, but haven't had a chance to try it yet

    http://www.dv247.com/comp...ents-komplete-7--75440

they do kore with it for another £100.. which is really nice to have with it (cost me a lot more when I bought it)

    http://www.dv247.com/comp...ments-kontakt-4--67534

is kontakt on it's own.. BUT you'd might as well hold back and wait to buy the bundle.. as you get a STUPID amount of sounds / instruments
