Windows 7 media center refusing to burn file to cd
first time exporting audio file from Sonar essential I saved as "wave" type. Windows 7 media center refusing to burn to cd. Do I use a different "save" from the dropdown menu? Does it have to be saved as something like 1411 kbps? Thanks in advance for your help, rrandy

What kind of a CD are you trying to burn? An audio CD that will play in a CD player or a data CD that will transfer the wave file to a computer? What do you mean that it is "refusing?" My software almost never refuses to do anything, although it often displays an error message or crashes or fails to do what I think it should.

Media Center is for burning DVDs, I believe, try Media Player.

Thanks for the reply, Slartabartfast, I'm trying to burn an audio cd. When I hit the burn button on the Windows 7 media center widow, nothing happens. I am able to burn to cd all my other audio files done with an earlier version of cakewalk(Home studio 2004xl), but when I try to burn the new audio file from Essential, nothing happens. I'm wondering if I have to save it as a different style of wave or a different bit rate? I'm just grasping at straws. rrandy

Thanks for replying John, I may have misspoke, I'm in the correct place for burning audio cd's, whatever the window thing is called. The problem is; I have no problems burning my old audio files onto cd, its my new audio files from Essential that the windows product is refusing to burn to cd.

The wave file will need to be 16bit/44.1kHz - standard CD format. Regards,

The media center is such a PITA to use. Sonar X2, I'm not sure about X1, has a cd burner. The media center has more options but it's such a PITA, who cares.

You can't "SAVE" to a CD. You have to "BURN" a CD. I don't know much about Sonar X Essentials, but Sonar X2 has an option called Utilities-Burn Audio CD and that's where you go to burn a CD. Standard CDs MUST be 16 bit, 44.1KHz.

Thanks for all the replies, especially about the 16 bit 44.1 part. That seems to be the problem. With 2004XL, apparently the default was the 16/44.1, so I never had to do anything, it just worked. With X2 Essential, the default seems to be 32bit, so now I have to remember to change that box every time I export wav files, a step I never had to do with 2004XL. Thanks again, rrandy

If your "Record Bit Depth" in Preference > File > Audio Data is higher than 16bit (and it should be assuming your Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings "Audio Driver Bit Depth" is higher than 16bit) make sure to set a dither option when exporting a 16bit file.

Dither? I was feeling pretty good about just changing that one box and then Scook had to add dithering. Thanks for the reply, Scook, but I don't know what dither option to choose. Any suggestions? rrandy

Not sure what options Essentials has. It may not matter which one you choose. You might want to experiment a bit and find which one sounds best to you.
