Windows 8 Sneak Peak

Looks really nice.
I wonder how good audio is going to run with the new file system.

I hate how these operating systems are geared more and more to idle time-wasting. Makes my head hurt.

I just want an operating system that uses low resources and allows me to load my installed software.

It looks like they are jumping on the iOS style bandwagon.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

I watched the video. And I don't like that new interface at all

*Edit* I also think touch screen stuff for PC's (not mobile devices) is as gimmicky as 3D TV

all these os changes is making my head spin. I understand vista to sindows 7, but from 7 to 8...? I like how sonar runs on 7,  7 works good already like xp, I ain't changing. the touch screen thing might be only an added extra feature as you should be able to add a mouse for preference

Hope this touchy swipy garbage can be turned off and not consume resources. Of course, creative professionals are the demographic Microsoft thinks about last...

Of course the touch UI can be turned off. When a mouse is detected, it stays in the normal Windows 7 type mode.
It's also going to use even less resources than Win7. This is the first time a new Windows OS
has actually had smaller system requirements than the previous OS. It's supposed to be out around spring of next year.

Yeah but will this work on a non touchscreen monitor, like the ones most of you are using right now or will it make any monitor touchscreen?

I think Microsoft got this idea from the iPad and Apple should sue.

Windows 7 is out and have been using for about a year or so now and no I don't think normal monitors become touchscreen or else it would've said on the box or features

I find it mildly amusing, but mostly sickening, to hear them talk about 'apps' and to have a UI totally ripped off from Apple. Why do all UIs these days have to be aimed at 14yr old social networking addicts?

    No thanks, Bill.

This new UI actually looks like its based off of Windows Phone 7, which was based off of Zune. It doesn't look like they ripped off Apple at all, IMHO, but rather looked to their other products.

Interesting thread, but gotta move it to Software.

    Carry on.

Yep, Seth hit it right on the head about the UI.  It's "live tiles" exactly like on my Windows Phone 7 Smart Phone.  I'm guessing that most of the touch screen features are also the same.

I'm not a touch screen fan, but, for those of you interested there is a frame that fits around a standard monitor and hooked to your computer(maybe USB?) will turn any standard monitor into a touch screen. Cool idea, just never been blown away by touch screen technology.

Whilst I've only just moved to Windows 7 and have no plans to upgrade again for a fair while. Touch screen sounds intriguing to me in that it may be possible to have a touch screen based controller.

Imagine having you normal monitor(s) up front with Track View and another slightly angled monitor infront where you have: console view for hands on control of volume, pan, sends, etc - where you can call up plugs and have instant hands on control of those. Assuming you can have multiple monitors that is???

I know there are some out there already but I'm not sure how well they work. I've read about a DAW controller for the ipad that can be synced wirelessly to control audio software. But this could be design and implemented by producted developers or available as an add on. In Sonars case instead of configuring ACT or MIDI CC's to control params you'd just call it up on your touch screen and twiddle.

    Sounds fun

He's actually still on the MS board of directors. Though he probably didnt have alot to do with the designing of Windows 8, he played a big part in the MS/Skype deal.
