Hi Thomas.
I'd strongly agree with what Cactus Music said as back in the day when I upgraded to Windows XP, I had terrible problems with my hardware as I was using all M-Audio stuff (audio & MIDI interfaces). The problem was drivers!
Firstly, it took an age for them to write the drivers and then there were issues with it working properly once they'd released them.
Secondly, when Avid took M-Audio over, they started charging for phone and e-mail support!!!
I learnt a couple of valuable lessons and one was to switch over to Roland/Edirol interfaces (no such problems since as they're quick to get drivers out and the stuff always works), in other words choose a decent, reputable vendor for interfaces and the other lesson was to make sure you have all the drivers for your interfaces as well as your computer's hardware, before you upgrade your operating system.
Regarding Windows 8 , I've still to move from XP SP3 and I've Windows 7 Ultimate waiting for that as I'm not touching Windows 8 until at least there's the first service pack!
TBH, I don't like that "Metro" or whatever they're calling it now, stupid interface on a desktop workstation. Don't get me wrong, for tablets and phones - yeah I get it but for a workstation it's a crazy idea as it doesn't blend very well with a full multi-tasking environment as I tried it on a test machine at work.
Good luck!
