Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355) 890mb

who knows about what's going on with this update, published 5/14/14?  Supposedly cumulative and without it, MS will not allow additional updates to be installed.  Problem is, this update won't install and on the MS forums, there is a HUGE thread going on about this.  Apparently, MS has extended the deadline to install this, but otherwise, seems they could give a flip.

I posted about this update back when it came out, since it was so huge...but no real *answers* back on that thread.
I'm just bringing it up again, as when I re-installed Windows8.1, I remembered about this again.

Do you mean the 8.0 to 8.1 update that you install from MS Store or the 8.1 update which comes from Windows Update? I didn't have any problems with either one. I know 8.0 to 8.1 caused some people some grief but I haven't seen much written about problems with 8.1 update. But then I haven't really been looking. Are you saying the 8.1 update wont install on your system?

Sorry...this is an update for those that already have 8.1.
and yes...this update will not install...nor on basically anyone else's system, to my knowledge.  It will download, install...prompt for a restart...and then onyour  restart will say "could not install update, removing changes, etc"...or something very similar.  I've tried it a couple of times...and the annoying thing is, it ties up your computer for a good 15 minutes or more...on the "removing changes" part...before it boots up again.
And I have an extremely new computer, as you can see by the specs below....
I haven't bothered to really check out the MS forums...but apparently there is a 93+ page thread going on.  If you "google" the update number "kb2919355"... you'll see an amount of activity with discussion on the failed/botched update.

Sorry, I don't have any info to provide. I didn't have any problems and none of my clients have reported any problems. The only thing I can think of is do you run or auto let windows update your system? I know you couldn't even download the 8.0 to 8.1 update unless you were fully patched. Try updating windows before the patch if you haven't (in fact just let windows update handle the whole thing). Best of luck!

I choose when to d/l updates and install.  Again this is an update for those already using 8.1...NOT an 8.0 to 8.1 update.  ALL other updates have installed with no issues except KB2919355.

I know, MS's has come up with a stupid naming convention for windows 8. I just did some quick checking and it doesn't appear to be wide-spread, but of course that doesn't help if it happens to you. It also appears most of the people with problems downloaded the update either from msdn or some other place instead of having it installed threw windows update. The first link is some general info. The second link points to some specific posts if you happened to have wrote down the exact error code you received when it failed. I feel for you having a brand new machine and all.

I downloaded the file from the MS Download Center not Windows Update.

Then ran it from my desktop and it successfully installed

It does mention that - KB2919442 is a prerequisite for Windows 8.1 Update and should be installed before attempting to install KB2919355

Sorry you are having difficulties. I ran into a similar error going from Win7 to 8. It would restart, get to about 67% and then remove everything. Finally discovered it was my dual boot causing the disruption.

Hope you get it straightened out.

    Matt

Do you by any chance have a cd daemon running?
If you do, exit that completely before running the update.
Daemon Tools was what was causing my update to fail every time even though nothing in the logs pointed to do.
