Windows File Compression

If I choose the Windows option to 'compress contents to save disk space' in the Properties dialogue for either Sonar project-related files/folders or files/folders in sample libraries is that likely to have an effect on performance?   I seem to recall reading advice not to compress sample files but can't be sure.

Grateful for any advice.  Thanks.

If you compress it will slow down everything as it has to compress it when writing to the hard drive and then "decompress" when accessing it on the hard drive.

With the price of hard drives, if you need more hard drive space buy a larger capacity drive or install an additional drive.

Years ago when a 40 MB hard drive was a "large" drive, things such as compression were commonly used.  Now, with terrabyte drives common (and relatively cheap) there is no need for it.

A few weeks ago I saw a 1 TB hard drive for $54 and it made me recall that I once paid $540 for a 20 MB hard drive...  1/10th the cost for 1/50,000 of the storage!  Wow...

Needless to say, as fireberd mentioned, there's just no reason to try and save space right now - especially at the tradeoff of performance.
