Windows Folder Issues With Certain Libraries

Here's a bit of a conundrum for you:

I have certain libraries that constantly give me folder system issues. There are libraries I will extract from their rar and when I go to delete the files or move them to another drive, always give me the "is no longer located in" error or it can't find the files. It's only certain ones that do it. The ones that really come to mind are Crypto Cipher Dholak Loops, some DJSH libraries, had a terrible time with some of the Soniss stuff... It becomes impossible to delete the folders even with the delete tricks.

Does anyone else ever have these issues at all?

Yes - I've run into that same issue with the Dholak Loops from what I recall.
When I run into an undeletable folder or content this is what works for me...

Open an elevated command prompt (run as admin) and:
Use the del command to delete undeletable files: del “Path of File”
Use the RMDIR or RD command to delete undeletable folders: rd /s /q “Path of Folder”
    • /S : Delete all files and subfolders in addition to the folder itself. Use this to remove an entire folder tree.
    • /Q : Quiet – do not display Y/N confirmation
Be very careful while using this method and use the correct commands, double check the folder name to avoid nuking the wrong item.

You can usually avoid such problems by dragging the folders right from the zip/rar archive into their final destinations, rather than using the Extract function.

That's the method I usually use as well. For some reason, it's not been working which leads me to believe I need to do it in safe mode. I'm simply too lazy for it most of the time though and I'll pass by it and be like, "Oh yah, I need to do that eventually." heh

Just been irritating me this week because I've been reorganizing my drives for a proper complete backup since I'm transferring a 4TB drive.

That's more along the lines of "out of sight, out of mind" than anything. The problem I ran into here was that I had the "lite" versions of the DJSH libraries but bought the full ones last year. Lite ones now won't delete. With Doka, I'm just trying to back it up but according to Windows, it doesn't exist... yet all the samples work fine afaik.

I wonder if the vendor isn't doing this on purpose, burying an invalid character in the filename to make it harder to pirate.

This used to be a common tactic back in DOS days, when you could make files disappear by inserting an EOF marker at the front of the file name. I suspect it's still possible with current file systems because I've seen Windows files that couldn't be deleted or opened by another program until I'd renamed them. It'd be a clever copy-protection scheme if that's the case.

That's actually a very interesting question though not sure how that would curb piracy or why they would do it on free products. If nothing else, it only serves to piss people off if it were indeed intentional and could possibly hurt sales since I doubt many people would know or remember something like that.

I did rename folders and files but it still refuses to delete. It's the oddest thing and it seems to be an issue with about 4 different vendors/packages. I should really contact them directly and see if it's a known issue. I'm just baffled that I can't remove them using an elevated command prompt.
