Windows Media Player

Greetings Fellow Sonarians,

My name is Les Tarr and I'm a newbie to SONAR.  I'm running SONAR X3 and use it for producing my radio show.  I'm having problems when I put a CD into the computer and Windows Media Player does not recognize the CD and comes up showing no tracks for me to download onto SONAR.  This also happens with CD's I've used in the past with no problems.  Sometimes my computer will make loud humming and rattling noises while slowly down loading the tune onto the track.

I had Dell do a diagnostic on my computer to try and resolving this problem.  Meanwhile my SONAR friend Keni Fink suggested:

Hi Les... Easy... The hardest part will be deciding which option(s) to change... Open Control Panel Open Autoplay Easiest decision... Uncheck Autoplay ...or select the drop down for the appropriate type. In this case, audio CD and disable only that... Note... If you don't see Autoplay when you open control panel, in the upper right corner of control panel you'll see a search bar. Start typing Autoplay and note that by the time you've typed the u, the list will include Autoplay... Select it! >From the depths of Deep Space...

I've tried this, but no results...  Also, I need to know how to transfer my music from Windows Media Player to SONAR.  Keni has been a BIG help to me over the years and I couldn't have done it without him, but I can't be BUGGING him all of the time.  He's busy trying to finish his latest CD.  Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated...

You don't mention what version of Windows you're on. I had a few issues when upgrading to Win10, getting the "default program" settings correct (Win10 has an app called Groove (it may be in Win8, IDK)), but things are fine now.

You may need to use WMP to rip the CD's tracks to individual .WAV files and then import those into SONAR.

I'm using Widows 7...  I'll check out WMP and see what I can do.  Thanks for your help.

Is this related to your prior thread? The format of the actual files on that CD will affect what WMP can do with them. You may need to use another program to pull/convert them. Do you know what format they are in (i.e.. what do you see when you browse the disk with Windows Explorer)?

also ... I've had troubles with my aging CD collection where a newer combo CD/DVD drive in my DAW would only read/rip 90%+ of them.  I had to use a different, external USB drive to read/rip the remainder.

    Fellow Sonarians,

After spending some time with WMA and SONOR I was able to solve my problems.  CD's that SONAR can't rip for me I upload them to WMA and then download to SONAR.  It works!!!  Thanks to each and everyone of you who replied to my post... Especially my friend from Deep Space Records Keni Fink!!!
