Now My 8.1 version was in a way a transition to win 10 via free option...If I am right, this could be why so much issues with MSI system?

As some are now saying ssd and win 10 if migrated, will eventually cause issues....Must be a problem I did not for see into...as all are or were done in this method...Update or Migrate?.

So, ASUS x99 deluxe I bought win 10 retail...not oem.

And that has some issues now also, due to ...something with updates and or it not updating properly holding one or more in a randum looping...for days.

and no post of Bios when booting, or being able to enter it...so I cannot  see my version of or update it through.

Kind of made me a pissed off camper!

Not sure...But I had it with MS...Sorry Cake Walk, and you hard working unpaid users of tech here, doing a very good thing for so many people....I feel your pain!

Again Best in the NEW YEAR.!

Cheers!

I do not take offense.  As a host I have to consider how the forum is receiving posts that are deviations from the norm. Be as concise as you can be and that will be good enough. I'm sorry to hear you had problems as a child. Still you are an adult now and ramblings however fulfilling to you are quite tedious to others. If you want people to read your posts keep them short.

Another +1.  I will only update my off-line Win 10 music computer if I have to in order to run Sonar.  Even then I may choose not to update.  I did not do the latest Sonar update because of the many horror stories: I have little time to record music and I don't want that time to be sorting out problems. YMMV

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

Where does it mention "long winded" in the CoC?

And are you going to start warning Craig Anderton and Danny Danzi about the length of some of their posts?

Thought not.

I let 64bit Win 10 Pro update everything. I keep my DAW online 24/7. I've had zero serious problems with WIN 10 or SPlat and the only "problem" I recall was when the Anniversary update required me to re-auth a few plugs. That was not a major hassle.

i have a couple of 'in place' upgrades to windows 10, and a couple of clean installs from retail purchased windows 10, can't tell the difference, they all run as good as each other. if someone was to ask me for advice whether to do an in place upgrade to windows 10 or a clean install, i'd say give the in place upgrade a whirl first and save yourself a lot of time and effort. from my personal experience i have found in place upgrade to be excellent in every way.

OK IN PLACE MIGRATION ...WHEN AND IF, SOMETHING GOES WRONG AND YOU CANNOT BOOT TO WIN 10...YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET SOME TOOLS WORKING FROM THE BOOTABLE MEDIUM IN A USB OR DVD OR OTHER EXTERNAL SOURCE.

THAT MIGHT BE HARD DONE, IF YOU JUST SELECT UPDATE TO WIN 10 FROM YOUR WIN 8.1 VERSION...ALSO.
AND IF YOU NEED THE DVD TO GET HELP....AND YOU PUT THAT OR IT AUTO PUT IT IN A DOWNLOADS FOLDER OR MEMORY....HOW DOES ONE GAIN ACCESS IF ALL GOES BELLY UP TO RESTORE OR MOVE BACKWARDS..IF YOU GET THE TOOLS TO WORK...IN THAT, I HAVE ISSUES TO.

SO, I HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF BUGS..OR VIRUS, OR HACKED IN OR SABOTAGE....BUT, I GOT ISSUES ON MINE...BIG ONES.

JUST SAYING I SHOULD GET MY GLASSES NOW....I NEED A DRINK.

all my in place upgrades were from windows 7

i haven't had any problems with windows 10 so far, but i haven't let it update since july. if i do ever come across an issue i would just recover from a disk image, at the most made 1 week prior, so nothing much would be lost, quick and easy, and all projects etc are saved to external drives (multiple locations/drives) so i feel pretty safe and secure

MS is constantly working on security for Windows 10. Many of the updates are aimed at making Windows more secure. Not to mention updates to Windows Defender. It is a good idea to let Windows update itself to stay current with security.

My DAW is dedicated and on Win7.  Regardless of version I only update when I really need to.  I recommend not updating unless your audio I/O card's drivers or Sonar/etc need you to.  If you're getting blue screens or other crashes it is worth investigating available updates.  If you are concerned about post-update functionality I recommend creating a Windows restore point first which you can roll back to if needed.  There is also the option of installing Windows on a new hard drive along with your software & drivers (to get to the same state you're currently at) and then update that instance of your OS.  If all seems fine you can move back to your old drive.  Obviously that takes more time but you won't have to worry about a backup or restore point failing to work when you need it.

If you are concerned about security when not updating your OS then I recommend not having that PC online.
Updating just for-the-sake-of-updating is overrated.

Hmmmm, what you’re basically saying is good for you, but not for everyone.

A BSOD is generally recognised as being driver issue based, not Windows. Yes, you should keep those drivers up to date.

Some of us cannot afford the luxury of having a pc “off-line” so i keep mine on-line and updated. No,problems with w10 updates apart from Focusrite drivers and a couple of pluggins. But on my laptop, that passes muster every time with Soundcraft drivers.

YMMV, but for me, no big issues,
All the best

I'm on Windows 7 Pro. I do Security only updates, waiting for a coupler weeks or so after patch Tuesday so the bugs get worked out. At the first sign of some serious update=related issue I will take it offline for good and keep it in a stable config.
