Wookiees' Tele..

I guess I should recap...the last post of this build I had mentioned the trip I had with z-poxy.
That stuff is used by many luthiers and that's cool. The problem I had was that the container nor instructions
mentioned that it cures with an amber tint. I sure didn't want that so I had to completely resand.
I use a water based acrylic micro-bead but wanted to try something new and got in trouble...well when I
used the acrylic it was fine on the sapele but I got it on the maple...had to completely resand again. Man the lessons
have been tuff.

After working my way through all that mess I've finally made some progress.

The bridge has been located, holes drilled ready to mount when it's time.
The holes to mount pickup and machines are drilled.
Cavities are shielded.
Frets have been leveled and semi-crowned. Waiting for some special tools to try a new technique to fine tune crown.

It's sanded to 1200 grit and the wood is really starting to shine.

I hope the zebra cavity cover is Ok...Ebony seemed out of place with a rosewood fretboard and the other
rosewood I have doesn't match. The grain may not seem so different when the knobs are on.

Also, if you notice the copper in the body- it does extend lower into the cavity and has the conductive shielding
paint covering it. Just putting copper tape over it doesn't insure contact. Should a grounding wire be screwed
in cavity best to catch both the copper and paint.

Hopefully I'll be oiling it down by next weekend....then it's put it together and dial it in.

The neck is much like a Tele but a hair thicker. Two hairs.

This is my last build for quite some time so hope it's enjoyed. I've had a great time with it
and looking forward to hearing John play it.

Been a thinking but nothing has sprung into the furry mop yet.

I like the special stepped side routing on the backside of the control cavity plate. Nice touch.

    Everything looks great!

    best regards,

1200 grit on bare wood!  That's more than just talent, that is devoted hard work and attention to detail.

This is one unique and sexy looking Tele, or I don't know sexy!

    Thank you guys very much.
It gets to where I'm not sure how it's going- something like when
you listen to a mix to long. I do stop and wait to check progress giving myself
a break the same way we give our ears a break. It pays off too. I'll spot things
I overlooked. When one is looking to such small sights as pores of the wood it
takes time to look at the whole guitar.
During a build it can sure look ugly and make one wonder so the kudos
are great to hear and I sure appreciate ya'll.

Jon and Mike- thanks for the extra points!
The reasons for sanding to such extreme is since I won't be spraying a finish that
could be sanded and buffed to a high gloss and will be building coats of oil - the wood needs to be worked beyond the "normal" sanding. It needs a finished look before applying the oil.
When spraying one may sand to 220-400 and be fine.

Using an in-set control cover I want it thick so it will fit right for the long run. Sure don't want it to sag or twist.  I have to thin it for the pots to fit but it's still a nice thickness. Definately not weak.

    Michael
