Work In Progress - first song post

Hi all,

This is my first posted song, so be gentle !

New Wolf

Its not finished yet, I'm sure everyone will be familiar with the feeling of never seeming to finish a project - but I'm determined to finish this one! I amy even write lyrics and record vocals, be warned!

I'd appreciate any comments.

PS its called New Wolf as I was listening to a lot of WolfMother and it may have 'influenced' me slightly!

Well Yeah!! I think this is a great base for a song. 1st post 'eh? Very Good. I liked the change @ 1:50. So, some vox and lead guitar would complete this song rather nicely. I like those guitar tones. Somehow, I don't think you'll have any problems turning this into a full-blown rocker.

Dude this sh*t is bad a**!!!/ Sounds like some Tool or something///maybe even Chevele. Listen where it changes and you got the keys come in. Try a different type of sound there like a good guitar doing the same thing instead of that organ thing. Maybe throw some delay/verb on the guitar for that part...it would give you that feel I KNOW you want. PM me

i think you're digging the organ b/c you're not truley "digging" the song and what it is as a whole. This song deserves to lose the organ. If Im right in assuming I know what he's going for, then the organ needs to go.

EDIT: The progression is fine right there, and the change is perfect... but the song cries for a nice ambient guitar as the instrument choice.

    Hello again,

Thanks to all for their comments - I've edited my original post to take you to my SoundClick home, so it works now!

I'm not sure about the organ part myself - I added it just as a texture until I could sort some vocals and other instrumentation out, it may stay, it may not!

    Thanks again for your comments!

Good foundation for a song.... needs vocals. The instrumentation & recording sound good. Good start... now finish it & post again.

Well, I think I've finished it!

I'm resisting the temptation to fiddle with it, so I hope you like it as it is.
I appreciate everyone's comments, I'm still not sure about my vocals but I thought I'd give it a whirl - I also need a solo for the middle 8 section but I'm working on it.

    Cheers!

The vocals add a nice element and definitely completes the song.

It seems that the second layer of voice just went up an octave. Have you thought about maybe going up a fifth instead? (Or is my ear just off?)

    Cheers

I think I'll attempt some more ambitious vocal performances on my next project - I actually found myself enjoying the vocal takes on this one! (although I'm sure my neighbours didn't - I don't have any sound proofing)

I didn't hear the prior version of this, but it sounds like you've got a pretty good final cut here. Vocals sound great, as does the whole song IMO. Very good work.........bravo!

Thanks again to all who've commented here - I really do appreciate it.

I've been recording for a wee while now but have never really fully completed anything, you know how it goes! This is pretty much my first attempt at recording vocals too, its not as bad as I thought it'd be

Excellent song. Great guitar tone, are you micing an amp? Percussion is solid and works well with the bass. Vocals are strong. I like the way the guitars drop out at 2:20 or so for a spell, and again at the end. Good mix too. All it needs are some screaming leads. Good work.

    Hi,

Sorry for not replying for a while - I've been off in Vegas losing money I should have been spending on recording gear!

Thanks for the comments - I'm not micing an amp (I'd like to but neighours get in the way!) - I'm using a couple of instances of Amplitube 2, eq'd and compressed a bit.

The guitar used was a standard mexican strat and my interface is an m-audio projectmix (I really should update my signature with all of this stuff). I have a transistor Fender 85 combo amp which I've never really seen very many of, and sounds good miced up, so I may give that a bash and see If I can get the guitar tones a bit more 'airy'.

Thanks again to all for their comments - I'm going to finish this one!
