Work should be like Laugh In

Maybe I'm just bored, but somedays, I wish my office was more like Laugh In.  You know, the bad puns, frequent one-liners, sight gags, and non-sequitors?  Granted, seeing co-workers dancing in the party scene is more like the stuff of nightmares, but in general, the day would be better.  I find myself eagerly sitting on the edge of my chair, water bottle in hand, for someone in a meeting to suddenly say, "Sock it to me!"  I'm ready.  Oh, yes.  I'm ready.

    Hi,

I've gotten in trouble (sort of) at work for having fun and trying to make things fun for many folks.

I think that people confuse "professional" and "fun" and making the work day an enjoyable one. Professional simply means that you did your job and well and took care of the customer or the situation at hand, and HOW that was done is another story.

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

That's what I'm talking about.  I need some of that in the office.  Having a guy ride a tricycle into a wall would be nice, too.

I try as hard as I can to make my classes fun.

Unfortunately they keep telling me I have to get quite a bit of instruction accomplished so it sorta cramps our style...

But I have had two students press their faces against the window begging to be in my class.

And one student used to blow a whistle every time someone made a mistake.

A student threw an eraser at me once (to be funny).

A student called me a jerk (in jest, fortunately), after I tricked him.

And we went outside to have class at a picnic table when the weather was too nice to stay inside (I wish that worked more often!)

Someone had me laughing so hard I cried.  I wish I could remember what it was.  :-)

And a few other fun things.  So we manage somehow to lighten things up as much as possible.

I used to work at a place something like that. Serial gags, bad puns via email and practical jokes. Didn't even feel like work, but we got a TON of work done.

    >Not a week went by without some humorous take on something that would result in hours of emails bouncing within the department - each poster trying to one-up the last for silliness and bad punmanship.

    >One co-worker had a "haunted" office (electric power problems) so we did a little "symmetrical book stacking" ala "Ghost Busters" and gave tours for the other departments.

    >Dress up for Halloween.

    >Spontaneous cook-outs on a charcoal grill we had sitting outside.

    >A bad ethernet cable connection in the drop ceiling that required a tech to crawl up there about once a month to jiggle. A very life-like rubber novelty store cobra added a new unexpected element to this task.

    >I would often fake stumble over my own feet when walking by my bosses office when one of my co-workers was in there for a meeting (door open - bosses back to door). Their task was to keep from laughing. Got to be a running gag. (pun intended!)

    >Hide banana peels in co-worker's office. Ever smell a two-day old banana peel?

A million things too numerous to mention. But then things changed. By the time I left, almost all this had gone by the wayside except the email silliness between some of the old-timers.
