Workaround to solve the problem of using DirectShow with ALL the latest video formats.

The slow pace with which Microsoft seems to want to develop all the functionality required to use the Media Foundation platform professionally has forced me to find a solution for using the DirectShow platform regardless of the codec used under Cakewalk Sonar . The transcoding of video that often in my case are sent to me coming from the OSX platform (Mac) to the format Prores 422, h264 1080p QT, mpeg h264, Avid, etc. etc. Although the use of Adobe Media Encoder software is simple and relatively fast, the process becomes tedious and time-consuming for a post-production studio that receives several videos each week, and which essentially uses Sonar Platinum in the 3 production suites: music composing, sound design and mix 5.1.
Here's the solution :
1 - Download the Media Player Codec Pack, which essentially uses the DirectShow platform for ALL known codecs.

2 - Install the Pack ''as is'' (recommended)

3 - Open the Cakewalk aud.ini file and add the following lines:
[Video]
VideoEngine = 0

4 - That's it! Now all video formats are played with the Video Engine DirectShow, allowing you to use ALL features available in Sonar Platinum for manipulating video files.

Advantages:
1 - Using this Codec Pack allows you to play ALL video formats without problems with the Windows Media Player without using QuickTime. Which is in my opinion a great advantage.

2- This solution can be used with Windows XP and ALL subsequent versions up to Windows 10 (32 and 64 bits).
Has been tested with all versions of Sonar from the 8.5 to the Platinum version.

Remarks:
1- Even if you change the aud.ini file with the following lines
[Video]
VideoEngine = 0
But you have not installed the corresponding codec in DirectShow, Sonar and Windows incidentally, will use the Media Foundation version. These lines give only an order of precedence.

2- Maybe Cakewalk could integrate this (temporary) solution into the software installation or upgrade until we have a really serious and viable solution with the use of the Media Foundation platform, because in my opinion, this is one of the important pitfalls for which Sonar can not be taken seriously by someone when it comes to the field of post-production ...

Cheers!
