Would There Be Interest In A Video Like This?
Greetings fellow SONAR users. I am exploring the possibilities of making a video on audio production using the case of a live band. The video would be a complete instruction course on mic placement for live drums, guitar etc... using SONAR X2 Producer as the DAW. It would be professionally produced with a place to download the tracks that are seen in the video for mix along instruction. I made a short video to kind of show what I mean. If anyone thinks there would be an interest in something like this (including Cakewalk), please let me know. Ypou can view my little video question here... http://youtu.be/KvrTHTgUHYk Thank you, -Charles

I guess not. Not even one interested person? I am glad I asked before putting forth any real effort.

Hey, I would be interested--depending on the cost. My advice, to promote yourself, would be to post some helpful tips like Fast Biker Boy (who did the recent SONAR X1 video) for free. Also check out the videos (and site) for http://therecordingrevolution.com/ where he has posted a lot of free stuff, thus becoming popular and well-known, then selling videos on his site. Probably a better idea than just posting here and sounding kind of...crabby when no one responds within an hour. I mean--it WAS New Year's Eve and all.

Seems to be a topic that doesn't gets discussed much. I've always wanted to learn how to do that stuff properly because my favorite albums are live. I'd say go for it.

Hi Charles, To find out if there is a market for something, go to Google Keyword Tool. (Type into a search "Google Keyword Tool" and it will come up). Although it is designed for people who advertise with Google Adwords, they let anyone use the external tool to see if there's a market for their product. I just put in the phrase "music recording software", but you will know better what specific phrases to use. This is the result I got: Right click > view image to see full size. You can also click any one of the phrases listed to get a narrowed down list of more specific keyword phrases. This is what people are typing into Google and how people discover what keywords to advertise on. It is also handy to know what to name your video titles, tags and web pages, as it helps with search engine optimization (SEO). If you are offering a paid product you might want to ignore all the people wanting free info and using the word "free". But then again, as Jerry says above, most marketers provide free content in order to rope people in to a paid offer, just like trial versions of software. So you could have a small series of free videos, and have a link to your paid offer in the video description. I would say Go for it too, and promote your videos everywhere you can: on here - in your sig, and Facebook and Twitter, to get a fan-base going. Good Luck!

If it's better quality video than your demo. 1080 is a must. There are lots of videos out there like this for sale. It would probably do well because everyone does things different. Other viewpoints are always helpful. I guess you have to ask yourself, "is it worth the risk?" Your risking not making profit for your time so it's up to you. If it's not to expensive, I would buy it.
Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy. Win 7 x64 X2 Intel DX58SO, Intel i7 920 2.66ghz 12gb DDR3 ASUS ATI EAH5750 650w PSU 4x WD HDs 320gb DVD, DVD RW Eleven Rack, KRK Rokit 8s and 10s sub

D'oh. I thought you meant live as in "on stage". Still looks cool though. Can never have enough tips from pros.

I dont think you will get much revenue for charging for it, unless you posses secrets that are not documented elsewhere. There is a wealth of free info out there to assist with the task and most of the stuff i take notice of is free and usually unbiased. Why not do it free?, then if people rave about it you have yourself a following, then start charging for it. I record guitars and bass through a crappy old AKG condenser hanging off valve amps. It sounds fine to my ears using a scarlett 8i6. Then i sculpt and process the sound if need be, usually just a mild low and top drop on a eq plugin ITB. It sounds great to my ears and no formal training whatsoever. I think you may be better offering one on one solutions online these days if you want to make money out of it. Of course, you will only be as good as your customers say you are, but i think thats where the profit lies these days. There is just so much similar material out there. But free? yes of course. It may well put you on the map so to speak.

I've actually watched a number of "mixing tutorial" videos, and particularly liked Groove 3's MIXING SONAR and another one that Kenny Gioia did for them called MIXING ROCK. Also one by the guy at the aforementioned therecordingrevolution.com site. Highly recommended. I've never seen one that took up miking, recording, and mixing a live band, though--so you might have a market there. Free or cheap is a good idea and if you end up getting some fame via YouTube or wherever, I'd think it would be good business for your studio whether you charge a bunch of money for videos or not.
