Would be nice to able to set the tempo by hitting a key in time

This is one feature I miss from Pro Tools - the ability to set a rough tempo for a project by bashing a key at the tempo you have in mind. Much easier than guessing a BPM, listening to the metronome count in, adjusting it, listening again and so forth. Or is there an easier way that I don't know about?

yep,  you are missing that feature in plain sight :).  Open up the "insert tempo change"

    Project>Insert Tempo Change>

There is a box that says "Click Here To Tap Tempo"

Left click the tempo with your mouse and Sonar will find your BPM for you.

I wish this feature was a little better developed. It seems like it gives too much weight to the time between the 2nd to last and last beat, rather than doing more of an average of the last 6 or more beats.

Nice that it is there, but it could be more accurate I think.

    Peace,

If you prefer to tap with a keyboard.

Same window. Just tab to where the tap thing is highlighted, then tap with your spacebar.
