Would love some advice on my mixing please.

I'm after some advice on my mixing as I'm really struggling having to mix in a really small room.
It's getting me down a bit at the moment, been trying now for about 5 years. Seem to be going around in circles, not sure if I can figure this out on my own.
This is my best attempt so far at mixing, but not my best song lol.

Cheers

I was faced with a choice at a difficult age
Would I write a book? Or should I take to the stage?
But in the back of my head I heard distant feet
Che Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat

It is interesting stuff, Steve.

Your issue, I think, is that the sounds you are choosing are not all that complimentary in filling up the spectrum. The beats are good, but you need something lower than the kick.
The bass is good, but not a lot below 150hz.
The vocal thing is good, but it has too much frequency information, and there is no space for it all to fit.

Thanks mate, I really struggle with the kick and bass. The kick seems quite heavy in my room so I cut quite a lot of bass off the bass, I always worry about them clashing.

Cheers
Steve.

No way. Sorry, James and I often disagree. This is actually a phenomenal mix. I have it cranked loud and it is shaking the room. Everything is tight and clear, well defined and with excellent dynamics. You should be proud of this mix. Fabulous work. It is a pleasure to hear this. Finally, balanced and clear bass. You could teach a few things to us here I think. I think I may listen to this again.

Are you winding me up lol?  if not then thanks for the compliments. I did cut a lot out of the Bass though, and probably over did the effects on the vocal samples. I suppose it's just a matter of different tastes.
Thanks for posting.

It is always a matter of taste. But one measure I have is how much do I have to adjust my rig to make it sound good. In this case.. all I adjusted was the volume: louder and louder and lovin every minute of it.

I'm so pleased to hear this, I had a week off work and had chance to take my time on it instead of trying to do a bit every other day after work. I think this has been one of my biggest problems. Think I'm starting to get the sound of my room now, it basically sounds like crap even with loads of treatment (it's 8'x8'x9') I just keep checking my favorite tracks whilst mixing to make sure I'm headed the right direction.

Cheers
Steve.
