Would using a sharing switch introduce latency or other anomalies

I have a laptop and a desktop and want to use a sharing switch (a device that allows you to plug in one component to share it with two or more computers) for my keyboard controller and also my groove box. Using this switch will allow me to always have these hardware devices plugged into the sharing switch instead of having to unplug then replug into the computer of my choice.  Would going this route add any latency or introduce other audio anomalies into the mix?

You mentioned switch for keyboard controller, so I suppose it's not keyboard/mouse? Because if it's keyboard/mouse switch, there is another thread at 'sonar' that mentioned some lock-up issues.

Is the switch a midi switch ? I suppose if it's just cable connected switch, there should be no additional latency.

Unlike a midi switch which will probably handle switching correctly, I suppose the only way to test before buying is to manually unplug/plug your current USB cable according to your intended workflow and see if it works. If it does, I suppose the switch just make this easier. Sorry, not much of help here.

I used to use these switches all the time about ten years ago when I ran gaming servers.  They worked great, you have one mouse, one keyboard and one monitor with up to four PC's attached.  However now, with the higher technology parts, you'll need to find a decent switch to handle DVI and all the extra buttons on current mice and keyboards.

All of that said, I'm just here to hope you report back on what you find because I'm interested in the same thing.
