Wow! What did I do right? New Feature for Inspector?

I was just folling around with snapshots as I have not been using them at all and thought it about time I started...

When I was creating/saving my third something unusual happened... The Browser was suddenly docked on the left and I prefer it floating so I did so and then realized....

The Inspector bar is not visible! How wonderful! I'm hoping this is a new feature and not a glitch tho I know it's a small amount of screen area, on my little 19" it makes a difference!

I couldn't wait to tell someone...

Here's hoping it's real...

Aw shucks...

[edit] It was just floating... I already knew that option but I like it docked when open and invisible when closed.... Not yet... <sigh> [end edit]

Undock the inspector and close it, it's always been like that hasn't it?

You know that you can hide the inspector at anytime by collapsing it or with the keyboard binding "i" right? Same goes for the browser "b".

I think Keni was referring to getting rid of even the little bar that collapsing it leaves.

    Yup...

Not a big deal... But now I'm thinking that I can use the screensets to have it totally hidden (floating), then change screensets so that it's right docked for times when I prefer that....

A few more clicks to get this stuff done, but it might work as I get used to it...

I'm a bit confused with the screensets... I thought that holding ctrl and clicking on a number stores the current view to that screenset number... Sometimes it seems to do this and other times I get a totally different screen than I saved to the number.... I'm sure I'm doing something(s) wrong...

Anyone have some good screenset advice for the screenset un-initiated?

    Keni,

The Inspector and Browser can indeed be 'totally hidden', without their minimized states showing up, by floating them and then closing them. And yes, this is remembered within Screensets, which is cool for having a maximized Track View Screenset.

The way Screensets work is that they just remember their state. You don't have to save it or push any buttons to make it be. Just go to whatever Screenset you want, arrange the workspace however you want, and that Screenset will remember that layout.

From there you can lock it so that it remembers that exact state any time you go to another Screenset and then go back to it.

    Thanks for those tips Seth...

I think I see how they can be very helpful... and I discovered the "copy to" that I thought I was doing with the ctrl-click-on-number...

...I think the lock will be what makes it work for me...

Thanks again... I'm back to playing.

Thanks for all your work (and the other Bakers) as well as your patience with people such as I.... ;-)

    Keni,

Even though I know you've had your struggles from time to time with X1, I appreciate your outlook and patient perspective on these things. So let me say thanks to you.

Hi Brandon... Thanks... You know I only want the best for Sonar... and I want to like X1... I know you guys work very hard to bring us what you believe to be the best you can supply...  I don't forget that (in between my mood bursts when I'm angry at something) ;-)

There are some issues that definitely need more development and I must say as some of them were already "ok" in 8.5, it's sometimes frustrating and a bit hard to realize that we now have to wait and hope to have them again...

There are also some cool things in X1 which I enjoy very much...and some things I have yet to add to my work arsenal as I'm now starting to embrace the screensets...

In the meantime, I'm creating songs with X1 and they're coming out wonderful... I may even get convinced to start using it for my customers too! ;-)

Here's looking forward to more advances for X1 (I hope the name changes for the next release).. ;-)

    Thanks again...
    Keni

But I have faith in my belief that You and the other members of the Cakewalk staff have always done everything you could to make Sonar the best possible... nad with a few setbacks, I like to believe we're still heading there

    Keni,

Glad to hear you're starting to get a long with X1.

One more Screenset tip for ya ...

Let's say you have a lot of plugins open and you want to close them all at once. Create a Screenset how you like it with no plugin windows open and Lock it. Then click that Screenset's shortcut again and it will revert to its locked state without all the plugin windows open.

    Enjoy!

Thanks again Seth... X1 is still Sonar with new wrappings... the fundamental program is still there...and for me that can't be beat by any of the "others"... Now to live long enuf to see the fullness re-appear when X1 and 8.5 catch up... X1 is still too slow to work with for me to use for clients... That's still an issue... and the extra features aren't exclusive enuf to force me into needing it for them... (things such as PC is nice, but I can easily get the same with plugins)... But it is getting better... As always, my apologies for my vigorous rants... I only mean them to help improve Sonar for all... ...and my Thanks for all your hard work (ALL the Bakers). You do a great job at something very difficult... Satisfying such a diverse set of users and hardware. Daunting.... but you guys get it done! ...and thanks for the extra screenset tip too... Maybe I'll get the hang of them soon... ;-) Keni
