Wrong file displayed PE 8.5.2.2

File 1 is open and I have double-click MIDI clip set top open the Staff View. I open File 2 and double-click a MIDI clip - it switches to File 1. This is really annoying because it means I can't work by switching between files. I have to keep closing one and opening the other. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks - rev

It sounds like you are opening a MIDI clip which will start a new project therefore a new window. If you double click another MIDI file it will open a new project window. My guess is if you look at your bottom task bar you will see File 1 tab. The File 1 window is now behind File 2 window. You will have to Import File 2 into the File 1 Project to combine them into one project. -------Be warned that importing a MIDI file looses some data as the projects time stamp and other parameters will take command. Opening a MIDI file is preferred to maintain the original composers data. Whole songs are never usually placed in a project side by side. Short drum loops are usually imported, You can do this with drag and drop too.

"It sounds like you are opening a MIDI clip" No. I have two files already open in Sonar. I want to look at the Staff View data in File 2 that's already there. I'm not Importing or 'opening' a MIDI file, just trying to see the Staff View. I have double-click set to show me the Staff and it works just fine until I'm working with two files. As soon as I double-click on a MIDI clip in File 2, File 1 Staff View is displayed. File 1 gets switched to the foreground. (Has anyone noticed how we can't format a post for readability anymore? Everything wraps).

The forum software is outdated and not compatible with Firefox. I reported the bug to Bugzilla and they tested this out and that was the answer. Web designers are expected to keep up with the rest of the world. But I guess Cakewalk is a small cash starved company and can't be expected to pander to the likes of us. ------------------------------I have never used staff view so sorry cant help you.
