X1 Bug: Stop and/or Pause cause continuous audio "buzz"
Hi, Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I've tried a few searches and nothing seemed to match. I finally got my boxed upgrade and I installed it last night plus x1a. Tonight I thought I'd create a simple project, import a wav audio file and play it. It plays fine but when I hit stop or pause, the sound being played back becaomes a continuous "buzz" that seems to be a very tight loop of the last samples played. I've not posted a bug before so forgive a bit of naivity in terms of what info to supply. I'm using a Tascam FW1082 firewire interface, XP on a Quad processor. Sonar Prod 8.5 has no problems with the machine. Any clues where to look for solutions? Many thanks in advance.

I got the same strange noise with the Presonus Faderport. Stopping transport gave a strange buzzing sound, that was not heard when the project was playing. After some messing around, I found the (rather simple) answer. I just removed the drivers for the faderport (even cleaned up the registry), restarted the computer, and installed the drivers again. No idea what went wrong in the first place, but after the re-install everything worked as expected. I have no idea if this is the answer to your problem, but it is worth a try I guess...

Reminds me of the kind of thing that happens when you set loop boundaries to the same value and hit play. That one has gotten me several times.

Hmm...well I uninstalled my FW-1082 drivers, rebooted, re-installed and firred up X1. Just the same problem; "buzzing" until I hit the "Run/Stop the audio engine" button. I hear what you are saying, Mod Bod, but I'm not looping and I don't think it is possible to set the loop start/end to be the same in X1 (not that I want to, of course!). Any other ideas, guys?

I've had the same issue here but it seems to be project specific as it doesn't happen on all of them.

Hello! Not familiar with your interface but maybe what happened to me can help you. I was using a MOTU 828mk3 and used to get a horrible buzz. Someone on the net said to enable the ADAT I/O (whether using it or not). That completely solved the problem. Hope that helps.

FWIW, this appears to be happening with projects I started or saved in 8.5.2. Also, I think it only started happening after the X1a patch.

Hi guys, Thanks to all for responding. I did a little more tinkering around this evening and I decided to go through the preferences one by one again to see if anything helped. I'd done this before to no avail but, this time (maybe due to the re-install of the soundcard drivers?) I found that checking the "Play effect tails after stopping" check box in the "Audio/Playback and Recording" pane stops the "buzz" from happening. I raised a problem with Cakewalk about this (not sure if I can update it now that I ahve found this out?) so it's still a bug but I guess I can work around it. I haven't tested it very much yet so I maybe crying "fix" too soon...but I might be able to carry on getting to know X1 now. Thanks again people, it's good to know there's others out here. Pete

Pete, Thanks for posting. I am new to X1 and had this same problem. You saved me a great deal of time. Now I can put the sledge hammer down and return to the music. Carl

Glad you've got it sorted but I can confirm that Mod Bod is correct you can set loop points very close together that can create a buzz depending on material. Just in case anyone else finds this thread in a search.
