X1 Expanded Deleted all my Sound Drivers
Tried installing X1 expanded and it has deleted all my sound drivers so there is now no sound drivers anywhere on my machine. I use a RME firefox. Is this a known issue and is there anything I can do assuming (mistakingly) I didn't do a back up prior to installing expanding? Thanks

that's very odd. I don't see how sonar's installation could uninstall your RME drivers. have you gone into windows control panel to verify that the RME's drivers are indeed uninstalled? you'd need to check in the SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES (or similar depending on which operating system you are using, which you didn't mention).

I didn't have any problems with my Expanded install. If nothing else, you can try the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date that is PRIOR to installing Expanded. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.

This guy has got to be kidding around. Look at the words being used "RME Firefox" and "prior to installing expanding." Ha. My hunch is that this is somebody acting silly. XP has system restore, but I always thought it is of poor quality.

I think he meant Firewire instead No, it's RME Fireface. And anybody who would spend as much money as a Fireface costs on an audio interface would know it's RME Fireface!

I'm guessing that perhaps his aud.ini settings didn't carry over, and that SONAR defaulted to WDM drivers. Does the RME unit have those? If not, it might appear that the drivers were missing... but only in SONAR. Then again, if it's a Fireface then yeah, I'd be good to get the interface name correct... or else you'll get confusion between SONAR & drivers and this forum & web browsers.

Firefox was a typo (you guys get very excited about the smallest things ) I obviously meant the fireface. X1 expanded did delete it's drivers, I couldn't believe it either but it did! Re-installed the drivers for the RME and the X1 install had also disabled all the windows sound schemes as well so had to re-instate them as well. Whole thing was a major pain in the bum but got there in the end.

The X1 Expanded install routine does not delete drivers, or change audio themes. It only drops files in the the Program Files/Cakewalk Folder, and the Content Folders that are already programmed in .

The X1 Expanded install routine does not delete drivers, or change audio themes. The SONAR installer has never done anything like this. Never.

Obviously tried all of the above first, I have done upgrades since Sonar 4 and this driver issue has never happened before but it absolutely did this time. I have fixed it now by reinstalling the drivers but please don't call me a liar I am telling you what happened and have resolved it now.

I'm not calling you a liar. But I am saying you are mistaken. And I still don't think the SONAR Expanded installer removed your RME drivers. I think you must have done something else you are forgetting about or just done it by mistake to get your RME drivers to uninstall. Because it's very improbable that the Expanded installer did that!

I know it's improbable but it did happen. Finished a session in X1c which ran fine. Closed Sonar, ran the installer for expanded including the gate. Went to launch - "no sound drivers installed on this device". Rebooted everything a few times - same result, all windows sound mapping gone as well. Anyway it's no biggie as I got it all back by re-installing the drivers so it's sorted now but it was a pain in the bum at the time.

Not sure what it means but : Ever since I installed Expanded, upon boot up and error message appears that says "This Driver Can't Release to Failure" OK is the only option. It disappears and my sound card (EMU 1820m) and SONAR Exp works just fine - no loss of sound.

arguing about it is pointless, tho. I cannot see any way that an installation of sonar or expanded could uninstall your drivers. but if you think it did and you are getting sonar to work again after reinstalling RME drivers, then everything's fine and there's no need to keep saying "no it didn't' - "yes it did" if you're up and running again, just drop it and start making music!!

Sorry but you have buggy drivers, nothing to do with Cakewalk. Your drivers (not sure which) could have crashed for whatever reason, whilst Cakewalk was using them, or it could be something totally unrelated...google "This Driver Can't Release to Failure", here's an example: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/15583-63-startup-message Did you consult the Windows Event viewer???
