X1 Groove Matrix question

Hello,
I am a Project5 owner but its limitations never allowed me to use it effectively.
I downloaded X1 trial but it seems very different from Project5. 
I wonder if the phylosophy of the groove matrix is the same and if the same features are available.
I am evaluating whether I have to buy X1 or not so I ask you if the following is possible:
- import a general midi file that immediately can be played through a GM2 vsti like SampleTank Omnisynth2, that is 16 channels/track withouth bothering to set any parameter
- import single regions of this midi file into the groove matrix (like: from measure 14 to measure 18) in a straightforward way so they immediately can be played through the same instance of Omnisynth
- I can load an old mfx

Your help is very important.
