X1 Installation on Windows 7 x64

I just decided to upgrade to X1, and in doing so, upgraded my system to Windows 7 x64. I had some minor issues getting X1 to install properly, but I did get it to work. Thus, I thought I should post some of the experience, so another user might find it when searching the forum someday.

From fresh Windows 7 x64 install, I tried to install using a user that I created to use in the studio. This user is in the Administrators group. During the install, installation failed when trying to register a few DLL and OCX components. I clicked ignore, as they looked to be associated with control surfaces that I don't use. Sonar completed installing and finished with the prompt for "View ReadMe.rtf" and "Launch Application." I tried to launch, and Sonar appeared to be coming up. However, it stopped and threw an error stating something like: "Sonar is not installed properly. Error Code-[01]." I'm not 100% certain about the wording, but it was similar.

Next, I installed patch B and patch C hoping that one of them might resolve the issue. Neither did.

Incidentally, I did try to install using the "Run as Administrator" technique.

I re-logged in using the Administrator account. I did not uninstall anything. I re-installed X1 using under this account, and I chose the same options. The installation completed successfully.

Sonar launches and performs as expected under the Administrator account, and it also works properly using the "studio" account as well.

One last note that just popped into my head. During the initial install, Guitar Rig had failed too. During the over-install, it installed properly too. I haven't used it yet, so I cannot report.

win7 has security which can be high enough to cause problems.  personally, I disabled UAC as soon as I installed win7 before I installed sonar or any other important program.  UAC is very tight on what it allows.

I would suggest turning off UAC, at least temporarily until you get it installed.

I'd advise uninstalling first, turning off UAC then installing again and see if that works.  you can then turn UAC back on if you wish.
