X1 KEYBOARD WITH SHORTCUTS - ANY TAKERS YET?

This looks interesting:  X1 KEYBOARD

Does anyone know if the shortcuts are still correct (weren't some moved with either X1d and/or Expanded(?))?

If anyone has it, I'd be curious as to it's helpfulness.

Thanks!

Stuff.

"This is an American English (ANSI - misspelled words, letters missing and don't start us on the pronunciation either.) Keyboard." Interesting quote.

I think people bought the stickers. http://www.4keyboard.com/...ardstickers-p-493.html

Cool Man! Thats what I've been looking for.

I wanted to put my own labels on a customizable board but there haven't been any good ones created worth buying.

Now I'm going to consider this keyboard.  But like you say if they change the shortcuts that would not work.

They must have just come out with it - so It may be set up for X1d.  I will have to look close at the picture to  make sure.

    Cheers,

I didn't know about these stickers.  Great!
Now I get to choose between the board or stickers

I would be curious to hear any feedback on the Keyboard, especially on shortcuts for X1d expanded and the general feel. Anybody tried it?

I think the tipping point for me would be more like $49.95 before I'd consider that keyboard.  If I do anything, it will probably be to buy a slimline keyboard and get the stickers.

I would like to know the feel of the keyboard. Yeh I can buy a cheap keyboard and the stickers for $25, but if I wind up with a crappy keyboard that gets gooey in a year then I haven't saved money. If it looks cheap and crappy, doesn't help client image either.
While the Cakewalk keyboard maybe over priced, if its sturdy gear that feels solid and lasts, I would consider it.

Custom keyboard: $99 Not having to clumsily put decals on all my keys: priceless

I hear ya Mod on the $49. Hell if it was that cheap I would've bought it already, but you haven't sen me try to put decals on anything with out botching it and swearing up a storm. Screen protector on my phone...WOW, that went poorly...

Too bnd they didn't make this available during their 26.6% Off Marathon Sale. Great looking keyboard geared towards X1 regardless. But like others noted, people will look to an alternative, cheaper route to save them money nowadays.

I like the idea (of course) but 2 things hold me back...

    1. It's not lighted
    2. I changed some of the bindings to my own liking so it would not be acurrate for me
    3. It doesn't come in black

    And

    4. The price (for the reasons above)

    ...did I say 2 things?

Stickies would be an option for me, but I hate stickies. I'll probaly just make a cheat sheat and post it below the screen.

Is there a color keyboard template, like a pdf, to download and print out?

Not for sticking on. As a card for reference.

I already bought a keyboard from the cake store years ago (editor keys?) . they changed the key bindings right after that. nope. wont do that again.

"ANSI" ? is the standard way it's known for 20+ years (old ms-dos heads remember the system driver for it on boot up) .. just curious what you calling the grammar police out for. It is known that way , unless you wanna include the full stops.

http://www.ansi.org/    next you'll be saying ASCII needs full stops as well ;-)

much like "scuzzy" drives etc... unless you call em "s.c.s.i" drives.

with regard to the keyboard obvious / main differences I remember are the 2 and 4 keys.. the @ being in the other place as is the £ and $ for starters..

(yes there is grammatical errors in this , but it gives you something to do :) )

If you got money to burn, you can get the Optimus keyboard that uses OLED displays for keytops. change em to suit your needs. It can even display animations (10fps) on a key.

    http://www.artlebedev.com...thing/optimus/maximus/

It's a truly brilliant idea. Its a shame that its so (too) damn expensive.

I've had this keyboard for a few months. Regardless of what the sales description states, it doesn't have "all" of the X1 shortcuts: but it does have the most-used shortcuts. It covers the key (alone) shortcuts, the Cntl shortcuts, and includes some Alt shortcuts. (no combination shortcuts). If you bring up the enlarged image of the keyboard you can see the individual symbols on the keys and make your own judgement about whether it might be useful to you.

I've used the stickers. Although they do have more shortcut information, I found with heavy use they tend to come unstuck and also the adhesive gets pretty grimy.

I've also owned the Sonar (non-X1) keyboard Cakewalk sold. Again, with heavy use it didn't hold up. Keys started sticking a few months in.

This new keyboard is much better built than the previous one. When you pick it up it is heavier than you expect. I also like the "key feel" better. It feels solid.

    Thank you for your feedback.
In your opinion was it worth the $$$? Did it come with a 6ft USB cord?

The cord is hard-wired into the keyboard and it looks to be about 6ft long. I paid even more for my keyboard than Cakewalk is asking. Is it worth it to me? Yes. It saves me time and that is valuable to me.

I hadn't seen the USB/LED attachment they are offering, but I did get this unit from MicroCenter for $4.99:

    http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0309954

The Sonar keyboard also has the USB port in the upper-right corner, so really any USB/LED light will work.

not interesting for us scandinavian users since we have more letters in our alphabet than a-z. (these letters are obviously missing on this one)

and i also think it looks too much like a toy with this color scheme

I have the Editor Keys stickers which I installed during SONAR 8. Of. Purse now with X1 they're next to useless but at least they stick well. Once my house and studio are built and I start using my studio DAW again I'll have to get a new keyboard.
These days I use flip charts that works whether I use a laptop or other computer. Also a necessity when using several DAWS.

OK, I'll suggest this once more.

Instead of a dedicated keyboard, you may prefer the following:

    http://sites.google.com/site/keybindingdisplay/

It is a on-screen display of the Sonar keyboard shortcuts - kinda like the stickers, but laid out on the screen. It lists all key bindings (i.e. including those with modifiers like shift or control) for a given key when that key is pressed. It also has a simple search function.

Best of all - it free!!!

I'd be grateful to know if anyone finds it useful...

I think this keyboard would be good for daytime use and the onscreen display w/ keyboard shortcuts for nightime use. But since X2 may be around the corner, will the same shortcuts apply to the new version? Decent keyboard if newer versions will use the same shortcuts or if you plan on using X1 indefinitely.
