X1- No MIDI devices shown in either input or putput

Hey.i am using sonar x1 producer edition in windows 7 32 bit. i recently installed windows. i am using zoom g series thing for recording.i have installed the drivers for g series as well so there is no problem in recording and listening to stuff that i record. but the problem is that in preferences>midi>devices, there is no input or output device shown, not even wavetable or midimapper and therefore i am not able to hear any midi playback, i have done whatever i could but nothing has changed. still no devices shown so please if anyone knows about it.help me out.thanks

You probably need to insert a virtual instrument. Hit F1 and search help file for inserting a virtual instrument or soft synth.

preferences>midi>devices is only if you want to use external midi gear.

Thanks for the reply, but its not helping.i intalled virtual soft synths and its being detected by cakewalk in output device section as softsynth. but again i am not hearing any playback(the input section is still showing no device), plus it wants me to download softtones.in my older pc when i used cakewalk 8, midi output detected some device called mme,u click it and you ready to go..But the basic question why is cakewalk not showing even a single device.do i have to install sound drivers seperately or what. is there any way to install it?

what midi input devices do you have?.. if you do not have any midi input devices then you wont see anything on preferences>midi>devices>input

    Routing goes like this...
Midi track output to virtual instrument, audio track input virtual instruments output, audio track output to your sound card. When insert a soft synth it should take care of all that. Simple instrument tracks combine the midi and audio track into one track but the routing is still the same. The only reason you would need a midi device listed under midi devices is if you are inputing/outputting to external midi gear. For instance recording midi using a midi keyboard or outputting midi to a sound generator like motif keyboard. There's potentially a lot of places for error such as incorrect midi channel or audio tracks output not assigned to your sound card etc. check your routing.

Since you say you can hear audio tracks I can assume you already have audio drivers installed. It should be just a matter of inserting a soft synth correctly.

You need something to play MIDI back on, such as a soft synth as already suggested. A previous install may have been using the MS wavetable.

Take a look at this video for more help.

As long as your happy that's cool.

But really using ms gs wavetable is not neccessary or the way to go IMO. That's just general midi sounds. You would get much nicer sounds using virtual instruments.

    Definitely +1, even if it's only TTS-1.
