X1 Phase Coherence... I'm impressed.

Just thought you might want to know..

I just mixed a 48 track, 24bit 48khz song. I have 15 busses and all tracks running Slate VCC, gates, compressors, eqs, and the clincher - a real-time External FX loop to use my Yamaha RevX reverbs in my O1V96 Version2.

I bounced the tracks in realtime with live input, and then just for fun, assigned the mixed stereo to the same sound card output. Flipped the phase and hit play...

Dead quiet: in other words the 48 track mix is exactly out of phase with the stereo track when playing in real time.. When I cranked the entire monitor system up to max (Yamaha HS80 plus Sub) I can hear SOMETHING.. it may well be the electronics itself, or the smallest of artifacts -  impossible to say.

So as an on-the-fly phase coherence test goes in Sonar X1D, I do not think any other DAW would be ANY better.

Nice one Cakewalk.

That's encouraging.  I'm always hesitant to use external hardware as plugins for that very reason.  Did you manually measure the latency and adjust it or just rely on the external plugin?  Pretty amazing stuff if the external plugin automatic measurement is that accurate!

    Stuff.

With digital outboard (Bricasti Reverb) I have found the external automatic delay compensation to be sample accurate.  If it is sample accurate with digital external outboard I would expect similar results with external analog equipment.  It would be at least as accurate as it would be with an analog console since there is no delay compensation in the analog console.  If part of the sound that we like about analog consoles and outboard is the result some of the inherent delays (transformers, etc.) you could adjust the automatic delay compensation value manually or slip the waveform after recording the signal from the outboard equipment.

I inserted the FX loop, set the reverb to bypass and pinged it by clicking on the "Delay" box in the FX loop box. A quirky thing is that you have to play the track for a second after you have inserted the loop but before you ping it. Otherwise it doesn't ping.

Anyways, it's testament to s solid engine IMO (and good hardware, I suppose).
