X1 Producer Installation
Hi everyone. I currently run Sonar LE, but will be upgrading to X1 Production Suite. Do I need to uninstall the LE program and then install the new software? I will be eligible for the X2 free upgrade. Will I just run the upgrade over X1? Thanks.

You do not need to uninstall anything. SONAR versions install in their own directory. There are some common files in shared directories but the the most recent versions work in your older versions of SONAR.

There are some common files in shared directories but the the most recent versions work in your older versions of SONAR. I'm not so sure,as the Production Suite includes X1 Producer,he will no longer need or have any real use for X1LE,wouldn't it be better[for saving HDD space] to leave Cakewalk Content,Cakewalk Projects, but uninstall the LE program? I do understand that leaving LE on the HDD,only takes up very little space,so by "not uninstalling" it doesn't accidentally uninstall Project files etc. Yes? The reason I question this is,I uninstalled the 32bit versions of EVERYTHING-X1,Dimension Pro,BFD2 etc,and now with all my plugins and everything including "current project".wavs only[anything I'm not working on ATM,or past projects and all past .wav's get cut/pasted to my external 1TB USB3 WD My Book Essential HDD]and my TOTAL space used on my laptop's Seagate 750GB HDD is 81GB[down from 130GB] Obviously EVERYONE likes to run their machines the way that suits them best, and I just like keeping my HDD GB count as "low as possible",and I'm perhaps,a tad obsessed about it lol. LE would be unnecessary but removing it does not get much back. You could make the same case for removing X1 when installing X2. The only thing not in X2 from X1 is Guitar Rig. I am pretty obsessive about storage and organization and did have to do some serious disk management when I had a 20GB system partition but those days are long gone. Ultimately, most older versions just exist as placeholders on the hard disk. It is mostly personal choice.

The footprint of the .exe for LE must be absolutely tiny, so the amount of hard disc space you'd recover would be negligible. If disc space is an issue, you need a bigger drive. No point in uninstalling it, leave it where it is.

Hi mickyD- congratulations on making the plunge. You'll be astonished at what X1 can do. I started from LE myself b4 moving to Sonar 7 Producer. I would say uninstall it just so there is no confusion finding files, accidentally putting files in the wrong place etc. Also, and this was a loing time ago- I once installed Cakewalk Project 5 over the top of Sonar and the metronome in Sonar refused to work until I had unistalled and reinstalled the program.

I appreciate the help. I don't have a lot of critical "saved" projects. I could delete them and not miss them. But, I don't want to "hammer" a needed file by uninstalling the LE. Does anyone know if guidance comes from Cakewalk with the new software?

Does anyone know if guidance comes from Cakewalk with the new software? What kind of "guidance" do you mean? For installation of X1, here's the link to the instructions (PDF download): http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013277?DL=Instructions (Hmm, the link worked for me a minute ago. Now it just takes me back to the main update page. Worth a try -- see if it works for you. I know it did at one point since I printed the page out).
