X1 Producer Upgrade

I am finally considering using Sonar again (been a little while). I have a registered copy of 8.5 Producer (registered to my CakeWalk account) but it is not currently installed on my machine (OH NOES! Some competitor's stuff is there !!!) I think I want to buy the X1 upgrade. Can I install the upgrade without first installing 8.5 or do I have to have that on there first? I really prefer a clean install of software.
