X1 Rock Template missing flac files

When I create a new project using the Rock template I end up with error boxes telling me i have several missing flac files, like sawstring 006.flac. Anyone know what's going on here?

I'm guessing you all have the same result?

Thanks, Kevin

When I load the Rock template I get a blank project with a few instances of Dim Pro. No warnings no nothing.

Yes, I am missing the same files. Just never knew because I always used my own template instead of the rock one.

I can confirm I get the same results. The flac files appear to be multisamples that dimension pro is unable to open or find.

I think what's happened is this...

If you had DimPro installed prior to version 1.5, the installer opts to leave all the content in place.  Specifically, it doesn't replace the .wav Multisamples with .flac equivalents and doesn't update the .sfz files that refer to the Multisamples.  This works out ok, particularly if you have legacy projects that were done using the old .wav files.  One thing you lose with this gambit is that you don't get back the 4 gigs of disk space that using .flac files would have allowed you to free up.  What you gain is not having to reselect the patches (or pull in new instances of the synth if you happened to use the DXi version) on each and every old project.

What you seem to be running into are new templates that assume that the underlying Multisamples are .flac instead of .wav.  In this case you have to weigh your options...

    • See what patch it is that the DimPro instance is trying to use and reload it so it will use the wav version.
    • Do a clean (scorched earth) reinstall of DimPro so it also copies all the .flac content...and do the above for all of your old projects.  (That's pretty much what I did before realizing what the consequences were.)
(Actually, I did a "kids don't try this at home" version of the above procedure by using 7-zip to pull the content off of the install media directly and bypassing the installer.)
There may be other, better, ways to handle this.  One would be to post this question on the "Cakewalk Instruments" forum.  There are people there with a lot more experience with this than I, that don't hang out in the SONAR forums at all.

Dan I believe you are dead on. That is exactly what is going on with my attempt at using the Rock template. IMHO Cakewalk has a lot of work to do on their install methodology.

That would require that they install a different batch of templates based on whether you have .wav's or .flac's in your Multisamples...or run a .sfz fixup script on the templates after install.  Either way, it's kinda hinky.

Hmm...maybe that's all you need.  Just go into the offending .sfz's and change instances of .flac back to .wav.

(Again...no warrantes...kids don't try this at home.  I haven't tried this for myself to tell if it really makes any sense or not.)

...eh...never mind.  The template file is a binary format that I'm not going to even pretend to understand.   Yeah...yer best bet is to just reload the patch from DimPro's patch browser.
