X1 and Midi automation help!!!!

I'm having trouble figuring out how to do automation using X1 and LA Scoring Strings - in particular automating the mod wheel. So far the only way I've ever recorded a part is to work the mod wheel during recording. However - now I have a MIDI track and I need to go back and add the mod wheel dynamics. But I just can't figure this out. According to my manual, I can use CC#1 to control dynamics with the wheel. So - in Sonar - I select the automation (or "clips") dropdown on my violin track. Under "automation" there is no CC#1 in the list. So I click "midi" and type in a value of 1. Cool - a cute green envelope appears. But moving the mod wheel does nothing to it. I hit record and move the wheel - still nothing. So just for the heck of it I try the same thing with a value of 7 or 11 (used for volume in LASS) - still nothing. If I simply play a note on my keyboard (a Radium 49, by the way) I can move the wheel and hear the changes. But for some reason I can not figure out how to record that data after the fact. I know I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone help???? Thank you!!!

For a VST instrument you need to apply the automation to the track that you selected automation to be applied to... this can be the audio track or the midi input track.. when you have the right track and try to select an automation paramter the vsti should show and you can pick any of the automation parameters that have been set.

note that if this is a multipart vsti and you select midi input as the automation track then only the first midi input track can be used... not any subsequent that you add for the multi-parts.

Yes, this is indeed a multipart instrument (violin on 1 track, viola on another, etc) with one instance of Kontakt (ch 1, ch 2, etc) and I need to automate each separately. I am selecting the automation button/ dropdown for each of those MIDI tracks. So you're saying I can not write a separate mod/ dynamics envelope for each multipart MIDI track? Thanks.

no, you can.. but the automation only appears on ONE track... so.. say you assign automation to midi input .. this will be on the one midi input track that the VST instantiates.. so lets assume you set that track 1 to violin... add extra track 2 for viola.

so, given that automation is on the original midi input track , go to the violin midi track, add automation and you should be able to assign any automation parameter from the whole vsti.. including track 2, 3 4 etc.. so your automation for viola will appear on the violin track...(it will affect the viola, just not be attached to the viola track)

I have submitted a feature request for VSTi automation for multi part synth to be assignable to multiple midi input tracks.. I suggest you do the same... I have a virus Ti and in my current project have 35 automation lanes... and simply cannot keep track of what lane is for which channel...

Ah - Ok I think I see what you're telling me. But what's up with this - when I select the automation dropdown in my first track, I do indeed see all the automation options, but they are all numbered. (#000-#511) As compared to, say automation for a plugin, which will show me each option (for example - threshold, gain, etc). But all I see in Kontakt are numbers. And yes - I can see where being able to do this per track would be much simpler. I will do a feature request, as well! Thank you, again!!

hi again.. When you load an instrument in Kontakt, it will load its automatable parameters... so for example, if you load one of the synth based tones.. say the pad "damascus" then pull up automation, and you will see 33 parameters named.. from cutoff, attack etc onwards and the rest (unassigned) from #34 will simply be numbered.
