X1, can't set Tranzport as a control surface

All of a suddent Sonar won't accept my Tranzport as a control surface. It was working just fine for several weeks and now I get this weird behavior. Here's what happens:

In the preferences I can add a new control surface, and I can choose Frontier Tranzport. It also sees the Tranzport as Input and Output midi devices. But then when I add the surface, it displays in the list of controllers but the "In Port" and "Out Port" are blank. If I try to set them through the pull down and hit "Apply" then they remain blank.

I've also tried to set other midi devices as In and Out and still blank. This also happens with Frontier Alphatrack. Every other controller surface accepts the midi devices however.

Anyone have this same problem and been able to work through it?

... if you're running a 32 bit OS, check to see if you've reached the "10 device midi limit in Windows XP".
I'm assuming that you're running XP...     IIRC, this limit also applies to Win 7 32 bit.

I think that this applies to "USB-midi" devices...    your midi interface, tranzport, alphatrack, padKontrol, etc etc and you can also reach the limit by plugging any devices into different USB ports than the one they were originally installed through.

This seems to be one of the best and reliable resources on this issue:
    http://www.rme-audio.de/e...n_support_faq_10entryd
Craig Anderton has also posted a useful article on it in the past.

If you're running a 32 bit OS, then go thru the instructions in the RME article, just to the point of seeing if all 10 device entries are full (in regedit, they run:   midi, midi1, midi2  etc thru midi9).
If those are all listed, then you may want to follow through with the recommendations and exact instructions in the RME article AFTER appropriate registry backups, restore point, etc.
It's not as hairy as it sounds.
Only necessary if all 10 entries are there.
Strange, this morning I couldn't get Sonar to recognize my Tranzport.    Midi entries were available (not full) in regedit, so I reinstalled the Tranzport software and Tranzport Sonar plugin.   Solved my problem, but I looked in regedit first.
    Hope that helps?

I figured out what went wrong. I had recently uninstalled 8.5.3. I didn't put two and two together until I realized that other things had broken: Z3ta, Rapture LE, Perfect Space.

What was necessary was to re-register the 32bit DLL for the Sonar Tranzport driver. I guess when uninstalling 8.5.3 it unregistered that DLL even though it didn't delete it.

Meanwhile, wish I'd read the other threads by people who had uninstalled 8.5.3. It's a fiasco and I wasted a lot of hours that I wish I could get back.
