X1 crashes - where to start (or quit)?

Hi, I have just installed x1 Producer on my new windows 7 pc (wiht FocusRite Saffire 6 audiocard) . I loaded a stereo mp3 track, and half way through the song Sonar crashed. 1) Where do I start? 2) Where can I read about how to setup windows 7? 3) Will X1 work at all, or should I quit this PC / DAW dream and get V-studio of some sort? Thank you

If I were you, I would read the manual about playback buffers. Then I would check the Focusrite site for the latest drivers.

    Gear: A bunch of stuff.

I work with the saffire pro 24 dsp and x1. In the knowledgebase on the focusrite website they have a thread on how to setup in windows7. A nice place to start.

first thing is first, and should be asked first,

did you install all the sonar x1 updates?
there is 4 of them all together.

although i had a focusrite saphire 6 and sonar x1 right out of the box worked very well for me,and that was importing mp3's as well.
is this just a daw computer or are you running other stuff on there as well?

i would deff check out the manual and even go to cake tv.
check out some of the set up vids there, that will get you started,
its probably a (your interface needs to be tweaked)issue.

no matter how many crash threads you read on here, dont
let it sway your opinions on x1,start fresh and hope for the best.
im positive you will be happy, this daw is awesome, beyond awesome.

youd also benifit from a anderton video or two.
but you should have gotten that for free i believe,
i think thats the offer there giving right now.

where did you purchase it from?the cake store?

Are you sure the file you load has no copy protection (DRM)? Because if it has you can be sure Sonar will crash (probably copy protection kicking in).

    I loaded a stereo mp3 track,

MP3 means a lot of different things.  There are some MP3 compressions that are 'not quite standard' that have been known to cause X1 to crash (particularly if they have any DRM encoding).  Do you have this problem with ALL mp3s or just with this one?

Thank you; it was my fault - I was not aware of the patches I had to track down and install. Now it works. Again - thanks!

Specs: Sonar X1d Producer, Focusrite Saffire 6, Windows 7 (64 bit), Intel i5. ALL IN ONE PC I'm afraid (so it' the one I also use for my home office). Having a seperate DAW is not an option at the time I'm afraid..

THANK YOU CHUCKEBABY! MY REPLIES IN CAPITAL LETTERS: first thing is first, and should be asked first, did you install all the sonar x1 updates? there is 4 of them all together. - THANK YOU; I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE UPDATES, AND NOW IT WORKS. although i had a focusrite saphire 6 and sonar x1 right out of the box worked very well for me,and that was importing mp3's as well. is this just a daw computer or are you running other stuff on there as well? - MY DAW IS ALSO MY OFFICE MACHINE I'M AFRAID. i would deff check out the manual and even go to cake tv. check out some of the set up vids there, that will get you started, its probably a (your interface needs to be tweaked)issue. - OK; I WILL no matter how many crash threads you read on here, dont let it sway your opinions on x1,start fresh and hope for the best. im positive you will be happy, this daw is awesome, beyond awesome. - GLAD I TOOK YOUR ADVICE, AS IT SEEMS PRETTY STABLE (EVEN WITH NO TWEAKS DONE TO MY OFFICE PC) youd also benifit from a anderton video or two. but you should have gotten that for free i believe, i think thats the offer there giving right now. - I GOT THE SONAR X1 Advanced Workshop 1HR 40SEC VIDEO, AND THAT ONE TALKS ABOUT ALL THE PLUGINS. UPON PURCHASE (AND ON MY ONLINE RECEIPT) THERE IS MENTIONED TWO VIDEOS. BOTH OF THEM LED TO DEAD LINKS. WHEN I SENT A COMPLAINT, I RECEIVED A LINK WHERE I COULD DOWNLOAD THIS ONE VIDEO. I WAS ALSO PROMISED THE "GUITAR RIG 4 LE" BUT THE DOWNLOAD LINK IT SELF IN MY CAKEWALK STORE IS MISSING. VERY CONFUSING AND I NEED IT RIGHT NOW. where did you purchase it from?the cake store? - YES AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH - YOU SAVED MY DAY!

Just thought I would chime in since we have similar set-ups! I have Sonar X1D and a Saffire 6 USB, an old DUO Core, Windows 7x64, and it's also my "everything" laptop. I never had any problems from the get go, and although learning, still way behind in X1s capabilities.
As far Guitar Rig LE, and the videos, I'd be on Cakewalk until they figured out what's going on, you paid for them, you should get them. I had Guitar Rig LE3 from an earlier version, and liked it so much, I ow have the Pro version 4! I bought everything through the Cake Store (except GR4 Pro), although I always buy boxed versions for just situations like this. You will get it, and be glad you did, I know I was, but there are a lot of videos to watch, lots on Youtube as well(look for Obedia) when looking! Good luck, you should be fine!!!
